I’d had a couple of beers and I read the headlines as “Happy grilled hamster day.”

No? Just Me?

To Scooter & Pudsmoe 🙏 each of whom -- after days of persuasion and ceaseless Sunflower Seed rewards -- seemed to know their own names for a few hours.

What, nothing on the giant woolly golden hamsters that were recently created through genetic modification?

I hear you on kids being bad at naming pets. Our daughter wanted to call our new dog "Cutie Pie" ... but no WAY was that happening.

We called her Pepper instead.

And who remembers HAMTARO? Yay!

Of possible interest, saw this on Lawrence O'Donnell feat. Ali Velshi last night and followed up.

Fund Managers Worry Trump Might Be “Insane”

As Donald Trump’s tariff plan slams the stock market, investors are beginning to wonder if the president doesn’t have some broader economic agenda—but rather if he’s just mentally ill.

reminds me of Homer negotiating (and WINNING) for the union with management at the nuclear plant being a mix of dumb and luck and the realization of the other side that maybe he wasn't a brilliant dealmaker afterwards.

Robyn, thanks for posting Taipei's video - I hadn't heard of her before, and she is SO smart!

ETA: here's her IG, which looks to have lots of good fashion history posts:

Robin Hood is one of my very favorite Disney movies! That one and The Sword In The Stone don't get near as much love as they should.

I would name that beauty Vanessa.

I would call her Tondalaya

Native American meaning little swan. A very attractive woman who is brilliant and sweet, but has a very short attention span.

Fascism is 99% shallow aesthetics, so yeah, fashion choices, or more general, design choices matter A LOT.

I always like to bring up the Palace of the Parliament in Bucharest, Romania in this context. https://www.wikiwand.com/en/articles/Palace_of_the_Parliament

just look at all the parades from well known fascist governments. The glamour is part of the appeal

Leni Riefenstahl famously went as far as having troops marching in formation always from left to right in the picture to symbolize moving forward.

The Nazis had a whole style guide called "Organisationsbuch der NSDAP" with everything from font-choices to uniforms.

Never had a hamster, although a friend of mine did. For awhile. His name was Hammy. He suffered the fate of all hamsters, which was to escape from his cage to find some wiring to chew through and be electrocuted. RIP, Hammy.

Never wanted such a pet, although I'm proud to say I did once rescue three guinea pigs that some jerk abandoned in a field across the street from my workplace. They spent the rest of the year living in the second-grade classroom of the child of one of my co-workers before going home with one of the students.

When my kids were young, we had an Abyssinian Guinea pig named Ollie. Very cute. Not particularly cuddly but we all loved Ollie. I am pleased to report that Ollie led a pampered life and died of old age. I remember when my wife called me at work to deliver the sad news, I teared up a little. Ollie received a very dignified burial in our back yard.
