The “more expensive” part is all that matters. It matters not in the least whether those increased costs come from increased prices on necessary supplies, higher labor costs, or tariffs. The cost of making it goes up, so does the price.

With his mass deportations, growing food here will be more expensive than imports. Americans will never do the physical work in extreme heat. NEVER. But if they could find enough Americans to do the work, they would want wages that would still make produce inhibitive. Not to mention when it comes to cars and appliances they cross the borders many times. Even ones supposedly American made still import lots and lots of parts. And this trade war will affect the poor more than the rich. Everyone still needs to eat. I guess if you’re on a tight budget you can always give up food.
