A big round of applause, please, for Chip Roy. Not only did he hand the Democrats the perfect campaign message for 2024, he managed to step on his own dick in the process.

A twofer, if you will!

10points was not comfy enough a margin for them that they had to gerry it even worse?

They scared.

"All that they fought for, all of those freedoms, we are giving it away."

speaking of 'naming one thing' i'm sure he can name one of 'all of those freedoms' they are losing? someone needs to ask him that. i suspect the answer will be as nebulous and meaningless as the answers i get from dumb conservatives about Trump accomplishments or things Biden specifically did that was bad for them.

I find it deliciously ironic that right-wingers are constantly whinging about "freedom" but when it comes down to it, THEY'RE the ones that pass legislation to remove said freedom. EVERY DAMNED TIME.

I read his whole speech thinking "Chip Roy is at least SOMEWHAT well-meaning." Because I thought he meant what a Democrat would have meant. I guess it's a discouraging sign of something or other common ground.

I always love it when people who make hundreds of thousands of dollars a year bitch about people who live hand-to-mouth on 50k worrying about not getting paid.

When there's a government shutdown, the party who voted for it should not be paid, and their medical care and pensions should be permanently revoked.

A friend (regrettably now long-dead) and I used to play what we called The Real Jobs Game. It involved imagining the real jobs of assorted brilliant, but not necessarily glamorous-looking, jazz musicians really did for a living. I remember determining that one guy was actually a high school groundskeeper and his brother was his groundkeeper's assistant.

Another guy looked for all the world like he spend his days riding a John Deere combine harvester.

The MJQ were a team of physicists from M.I.T working on a top-secret project.

What if we play the Real Jobs Game with Chip Roy.

I figure that he is either a transparently-phony T.V. psychic or the star of the bizarre and offensive new movie "The Evil, Oriental Plots of Fu Manchu."

as far as i can tell it doesn't look like he has had much 'real' employment in his entire life. and quit the one actual job he had after 3 years because he is afraid of cities.

He looks utterly useless, like a fraud at whatever he attempts. That's the universal message of the goatee. IMHO.

Wait a second. by Washington is referring to *George* "Swatted Down the Whiskey Rebellion" Washington?

And by Lincoln does he mean *Abraham* "Beat the Shut-It-Down-and-Secede Boys" Lincoln?

Not a single one of them fully comprehend what a real shutdown means. Hell, apparently they didn't even take time to read the next steps that will be taken upon return. I mean like ALL OF THEM? Not a single soul read the plan? Oh well. This is what happens when you elect the stupidest non-politicians to the house. No one but themselves to blame.

When AOC was getting a lot of shit from Nancy Pelosi and other establishment Dems -- and she did, even if it was under the radar -- she did the mature adult thing: She responded that she aspired to be seen as "something more than a bomb-thrower from a deep-blue district." And she has been IMHO.

OTOH, this Roy, along with MTG, Boebert, Gaetz and the rest of the jackass crew, want nothing more than to be bomb-throwers. That's all they do, it's all they want to do, and it's all they're capable of doing. And they don't care where the bombs land or whom they hurt: their own party, Congress, or the nation as a whole.

Republicans swear that government doesn't work. And then demand that you elect them so they can prove it. Then they sit on Capitol Hill, collecting money, finding every excuse under the sun to not do their job. And when they get forced to do it, they squeal like toddlers about it.

The thing about gerrymandering is to spread your advantage around and concentrate the other guys, so you win a lot of districts by a little while they win a few districts by a lot. So Chip is wasting 15% of his district that could be used to take down, say, Joaquin Castro (D-San Antonio). Not a team player, I guess.

This is why we describe Georgia as a pink strawberry muffin with small intense blueberry dots (and some small intense red strawberry bits here and there too.) The Republican controlled counties usually only win by 10-15% but the Democratic districts win by 50+ - but there are so many more Republican controlled districts, carefully mapped in such a way as to concentrate where they can't carve out what they really want.

I'm so fucking tired of continuing resolutions and shutdown threats. I worked for the federal government in what was considered an acquisition agency. I had to get certified in federal acquisition law and the normal budget process. I don't think I ever saw the normal budget process in operation during my time as a fed.
