I went to St. Catherine's in Charlestown for grammar school. 100% white. Probably 99% Irish American. I went to Girls' Latin in Dorchester for high school. First time I had ever met anyone Black, Irish or Jewish. Right before bussing, there was a single Black student. He didn't live in Charlestown. The high school had a really good electrical program that accepted students throughout Boston.I remember when MLK was murdered and my neighbors were relieved that the *igger was dead and they called RFK a *igger lover, which was supposed to be the worst thing you could call a white person.Thank god I got away at least for high school. I moved to a Boston suburb 4 years later. (Eventually to Minnesota). I shudder to think what kind of a person I might have become if I had attended high school and stayed in town beyond that.
