Hillary Clinton just conceded to Donald Trump, and she is not crying, so we are not crying. (Yes, we are.) We never wondered whether Hillary would concede to a loss with grace, because she is a true American patriot, but actually witnessing it is something else entirely. She said, "this is painful, and it will be for a long time," but reminded the Americans who fought so hard for her that we must stay focused on the higher ideals that have already made this nation great. She also said we "owe it" to Trump to give him a chance not to literally burn this country to the ground.
The Hamilton musical has felt particularly apt during this election season.
"Let me tell you what I wish I'd known, when I was young and dreamed of glory. You have no control who lives, who dies, who tells your story.... remember from here on in, history has its eyes on you."
My pet theory is that this is at least part of what happened: Polls assume that people who intend to vote will have equal access to the voting booth. But this was our first election after the gutting of the Voting Rights Act, so that key assumption was profoundly incorrect.
Thanks Evan. Yes, Hillz has sadly passed the torch but to whom is not clear. I am terrified, heartbroken, heartsick and so much more. It's truly like grief from losing a loved one.
This was a wonderful article & I'm crying again.
The Steiniacs are crowing that this is the end of the Dems and the job over the next 2-4 years is to wipe out the Dems altogether so only True Socialists will confront Trump in 2020.
Votes for Hillary: Black women 93%, White Women 43% (I think I got those right). As usual, we gave our burden to our Black sisters, and then turned our backs.
*Not to take anything away from Hillary, of course (or to "blame" her for anything. At all) but this kind of stuff makes me wish she were running. And Massachusetts don't you DARE let this treasure slip through your fingers.
we'll see what happens when trump wants to start taking guns away.
God willing, we'll see weed on the ballot in PA within the next couple elections.

Callyson you must! I don't know how, but we can't let them change who we all are & must continue to try to show them what is real, good, fair...
I'm terrified. I'm heartsick. I'm angry.
And Ali, we will somehow make it.
But fucking Pennsylvania??? For realz???

We have, as a country, shown we do NOT deserve the likes of Hillaryhttps://uploads.disquscdn.c...

I'm ashamed as well & haven't been watching sportsball because phonebanking. The Eagles are sucking, though. Hope your boys aren't.
I don't have an answer yet on how to counter this. I do know that the bright & shiny promise of America has been tarnished.
Hopefully the rest of the world realizes that the majority of Americans do have souls.

Right? Fuck you, Jill.
Pretty sure his parole office doesn't know.
For what it's worth, Charlie Pierce agrees with you. Yay?
I will never support Donald Trump. Not now, not ever.
Speaking of "classy women"...*
