Just as Jackie treehorn said of the adult film industry of the early 1990s, standards have indeed fallen in the 2020s in the operation naming department of the Republican conspiracy to create a fascist state in this country.

Operation 2025 is kind of a little on the nose, don't you think?

It's not mysterious and vague, it's not you know Operation overlord or operation backgammon or operation the game where it takes a steady hand to remove you know water on the knee or the spare rib or whatever.

And it's not even close to Steve McQueen levels of cool, you know like operation Thunderball or operation snake eyes or operation annihilate.

It's like, so next year.

Operation 2025. I mean they're not even trying. Yeah I really like the line about the hollowed out volcano and all that, but shit this crew of assistant Church newsletter editors would just call that operation hollowed out volcano.

"Operation 2025." There's no music to it.

God damn it, if you're going to be evil, be good at it, be evil. Twirl that mustache, cackle that laugh, sneer with the best of them. I mean come on this is the United States of America! We don't tolerate mediocrity. Just like the new slogan of the truly awful local TV news Operation in my area, committed asshole fascists -- our committed asshole fascists -- should share the American passion for the "relentless pursuit of excellence!"

And shit, iif I'm going to be ruled by a fascist dictatorship, it better have great graphics and solid copywriting. That's at a minimum. No negotiation.

I refuse, I absolutely fucking refuse to be oppressed by a group of d students whose idea of graphics is what a blue background, white key line box, a few five-point stars, and in a sans serif font, Trump, and the name of the town, so that all the press photos, which will look the same from event to event, can be easily sorted by an intern without having to look at the metadata. This one's for Sioux falls and this one's for Sioux City, etc etc.

I mean come on. C o m e o n.

And I refuse to accept and I will resist to the nth any fascistic movement whose fashion sense is merely ill-fitting blue suits, Sears 50/50 poly blend white collared men's dress shirts, and solid red ties of a kind that fit only for soup stains splashed by TGI Fridays staff.

I mean where are the textures?

We need to see the fitted wool jackets, with hidden plackets and high collars. We need the gaudy medals. And for fuck sake, what the hell kind of fascist conspiracy are you running when you don't have the necessities like embroidery and metallic piping and epaulettes.

And what's with the God damn shoes? First off you're supposed to be wearing jodhpurs. That then gives you the sartorial context to add the high riding boots. Then, shitheads, you can accessorize. The matching leather gloves, the patent leather Sam brown belts, a swagger stick, etc. Its an *ensemble*, fuck wads, and it doesn't hang together unless you've got a unity of the parts. OTR blue suits and solid ties are not it.

Where is my Curt Jurgens?

I mean Henry Fonda and all those others in the cast of thousands on the Allied side in the longest day, in their wrinkled rumpled cotton utility pants and tunics only looked great because the cast members they defeated, utterly destroyed in Normandy, were dressed to the nines in the military equivalent of Balenciaga.

So again, if I'm going to have to live the rest of my life under the boot of trump and his asshole kids and his fucking army of racist misfit fuckers like Miller and all those other assholes, I demand that they show a little fucking style. That's not too much to ask if we're going to have to live in a world without freedom.

"When the Piranhas left school they were called up but were found by an Army Board to be too unstable even for National Service. Denied the opportunity to use their talents in the service of their country, they began to operate what they called 'The Operation'. They would select a victim and then threaten to beat him up if he paid the so-called protection money. Four months later they started another operation which the called 'The Other Operation'. In this racket they selected another victim and threatened not to beat him up if he didn't pay them. One month later they hit upon 'The Other Other Operation'. In this the victim was threatened that if he didn't pay them, they would beat him up. This for the Piranha brothers was the turning point."

A lot of Project 2025 is the wet dream of the billionaire class who believe taxes are for the little people and they have a god-given right to pollute as much as they want. So they are already pumping cash into Trump’s campaign, some of which may not just go to his lawyers.

The Federalist Society plays a big part in Project 2025 and have been working at it since Raygun. With every R admin they have infiltrated all aspects of govt especially the judiciary. They choose who they want and give the list to the president to get it done. McFuckface has been getting it done with every R admin and even D admins by not allowing them to seat any judges. That motherfucker needs to fry.

I was a kid in the 1960s, and there was a "President's Physical Fitness Test" (maybe some other boomer can help with the specific name). It was meant to improve physical readiness in light of the poor fitness of US Americans heading out of the Depression and into WWII.

Job #1: Prepare to fight "Unitary Executive" cases and other executive power nonsense in court. Craft arguments that appeal to rightwing bugaboos.

Job #2: Don't forget, "IT'S THE ECONOMY, STUPID." Among their other sins, the Trump/Project 2025 agenda is devastating to the economy. We're talking widespread labor and product shortages, runaway inflation and a massive depression that would make 2008 look like nothing. That is not the worst thing about it, but it has the greatest potential to garner bipartisan opposition.

Job #3: Protect democracy. Worst comes to worst, we could ride this out PROVIDED that it's still possible for a massively angry landslide corrective vote to rid us of these thugs. Don't let them cripple democracy so much that it's functionally impossible for them to lose.

It is nothing short of amazing how Trump gets a pass on everything. If he proposes something stupid and evil, it's "he's not serious about it." If he says he's serious, "don't worry, he's not competent enough to pull it off". If he pulls it off, it's "not really any different from what the Democrats did when they were in charge."

He gets a pass on the pandemic, because "it was an act of God, we should instead judge him based on 2017-2019". But Biden gets no pass at all from the fallout from the pandemic, which included inflation and crime spikes.

This is going to be another one that "was produced by some rogue elements, not Trump's official campaign, he doesn't even know about this stuff so don't worry" and "boy you liberals are hysterical about everything, you're just being owned". I guess we are supposed to just hope he's too lazy and incompetent to do this stuff. Judge everyone else by what they promise to do, but not this guy, whose own dishonesty is a known factor and is used as a shield for him.

Commentary from the Guardian on the India v USA cricket match going on right now. I am gobsmacked, I don't understand literally any of this. I love the fact I can be this ignorant about something; not sure why, I just think it's beautiful:

"It is Arsheep Singh for his career best four for nine. “I’m very pleased with the performance. Last two games I gave away too many but team has kept backing me.The plan was to hit the hard lengths. In conditions like this you can use the wicket more at the death. You can back your execution with yorkers, Bumrah told me as well, to surprise batters.”

"The document, written with input from several leftovers from Trump’s first term, is basically a far-Right wish list designed to help the Great Man start consolidating executive power, ignoring Congress, trampling any norms or rules that limit presidential power, undoing most every law and policy put into effect during the Biden administration, and enacting the craziest rightwing fever dream policies possible."

The good/bad news: whenever Republicans enact their dreams (bank deregulation 1987 and 2008, wars in 2001 and 2003) they ALWAYS blow up the economy. That's good news, because if people are allowed to vote after 2025, the GQP will be thrown out on their ears in 2028. It's bad news, because you probably will not have a job, a 401K, and your house will lose half its value. They can never just inherit a booming economy, and do nothing. They ALWAYS have to "fix" it.

Expand full comment

"Fixing it" means shaking off the fleas. Blowing up the economy is a feature, not a bug, because the American people are so poorly informed and/or stupid that they can never seem to remember that the suffering they experience in the early years of Democratic administrations is caused by Republic administrations. The Democrats build the economy up again, everyone forgets, and elects another gang of Republic shitheads, who take credit for the successes of the Democrat's policies. Wash-rinse-repeat. The middle-class loses their 401k and their savings, Wall Street and the Banks get bailouts funded by the taxpaying middle-class. It's just an accelerated upward redistribution and concentration of wealth. Combined with dark money finance laws, the rich can now afford to purchase the government they always wanted, paid for by the rest of us.

Does the issue divide Democrats and unite Republicans? Then table it until after the election. Every minute we spend fighting among ourselves is a minute we are distracted from the crucial issue of this year.

Fighting among progressives and liberals in the Democratic Party helped Trump win in 2016. That did not happen in 2020, where even though Biden got millions more votes and matched the electoral college win Trump had in 2016, the margins of victory in a few states were small in both elections. So we cannot afford to have protest votes or sitting on your butt because Biden is not your perfect candidate. He's the only one with a chance of beating Trump, just like Hillary was as of July 2016. That lost the election in 2016 but unifying won it in 2020. Wishing someone else was running is a waste of time.

Not a lot of Independents there, and having your guy up there on his lonesome means he gets nothing positive done.
