Doesn't matter. They're trying to intimidate Biden's peeps, make them quitter face and what not, put bullseyes on their backs

They know it is dead in the senate and that it is all theater of the absurd: even the press has admitted that this one is ridiculous.

He's guilty of being named Alejandro Mayorkas. That should be enough, right?

He’s also Jewish. And a Democrat. ❤️

For those just starting their news reading evening with Wonkette, the impeachment died in it's sleep.

Got tossed 51-49. So his opinion was officially recorded. And ignored.

“Motion to make wanking motions.”

“Seconded.”

“Members may now wank with abandon, as befits this serious occasion.”

Um as we have seen inpeeeeech is meaningless without conviction which will never happen in our lifetimes. So does it really matter what happens next?

Impeachment charges against Mayorkas both voted down as constitutionally impermissible.

i bet a lot of their border "concerns" would be alleviated if they passed the bipartisan (though truly a R giveaway) immigration / border bill? probably would take less time than this performative nonsense since it is ready to go.

Unknown replies: That means they were caught, nitwit.

They take it as fact that an equal or greater number waltzed right in. Evidence is for "cucks" in MAGAMerica, where sincerely held beliefs are all you need to brand people criminals. You know, the "Law and order" party.

Josh Hawley isn't just a Republican from Missouri, he's also a turd from up Trump's keister.

OK, childish humor impulse indulged; carry on.

They’re basically destroying the Constutooshun? This is what happens when people lose interest and trust in politicians. You can’t say something is a level 5 concern when you can say it’s a level 11 outrage. So now everything, even an obviously partisan attack due merely to dissatisfaction with policy, is the literal END of democracy and civilization as we know it. Just look at Kari Lake. She just gave a speech and said voters should “strap on a Glock.” Huh? In our supposedly world-leading civilized democracy we allow politicians to urge people to “strap on a Glock,” or they otherwise may not get their way? She said the next 6 months will be a battle to “save our country.” This is how countries that formerly enjoyed a peaceful democracy fell apart and succumbed to violence and civil unrest. It’s people like her, and the lack of obviously needed bans on political rhetoric that openly or implicitly promotes violence. That’s what she’s doing. She wants people afraid to vote. She wants to destabilize the process in the hope for a better outcome for fringe people like herself. She has no business being an elected official or a candidate.

GaseousAnomaly's avatar

Kari Lake has COMPLETELY patterned herself after Donald Trump. If it were possible for her to give up 60% of one of her X chromosomes to more closely match Trump, she would do it. So, keep in mind, any concern you have about Kari Lake is only going to be magnified in Donald Trump

In former times, Hawley would be the guy in the dingy office who denied visas to the Jews. The guy in the dingy office signing the death warrants for the aristocracy of France in the late 18th century. The guy handing out the coins to the sellers of captured natives before they were loaded on the slave ships.

He's a functionary, evil but small, and I have a hard time distinguishing him from the bobble-throated slapdick from Arkansas, Tom Cotton, for good reason: neither of them are nearly as important as they think they are, nor worth the effort to properly hate them by name and identifiers.

Blanche de Shambles's avatar

Slight point of history- we actually do know who signed most of the death warrants for the French aristocracy, and it wasn't just some faceless bureaucrat. In the case of Louis XVI, it was a unanimous vote of the General Assembly, and in the case of most others, it was Maximilian Robespierre and the Committee of Public safety.

Hawley JUST KNOWS Mayorka is guilty, but of what? Of failing to build a full scale replica of the Berlin Wall, razorwire and Alsatians and grim thugs toting submachine guns between Mexico and Cal., NM, AZ and texas in the four years since the Mad King's fall, a thing that they themselves conspicuously failed to do in the four years when thy WERE the government.

"If they do what they say they're gonna do here, this will be the end of the impeachment. They're basically destroying impeachment and the Constitution," Hawley quacked.

Anyone who voted to acquit the former guy either time can kindly shut the fuck up about impeachment and the goddamned constitution forever.

Wookiee Monster's avatar

“hear ye! hear ye!” and a notice that “all persons are commanded to keep silence, on pain of imprisonment.”

At least they got MTG to shut the fuck up for a few minutes.

Send in the clowns.

HA!

The Senate voted 51-48 that Schumer's point of order is well taken, meaning that it ruled that the first impeachment article is unconstitutional. That article had charged Mayorkas with "willfully and systemically" refusing to comply with federal immigration laws.

Richard Penner's avatar

They did the same to the second article of impeachment.
