When the ACA was passed, the Nazis and Neo- Confederates howled that it was too big,

they couldn't read it all, it's NOT FAIR!!! And the Democrats arranged for the vote to be taken when as few trolls as possible were present to vote against. This was also much whined about, that kind of tactic is only allowed when fuckery is afoot and NO FAIR turning it around and using it for good.

Writing my Senator again: (Senators Budd and Tillis)- One of my students, who is about 40, with kids who all live at her parent's (rented) house. Hard workers, but do not have a lot of money just had Trump take away her mom's food stamps. The woman is a cancer patient and no longer is able to work. Under Trump's rule, and your watch, we now feed the rich and starve the poor.

I blame you, a United States Senator, who does not have the guts to stand up for what's right as you defend a coward and a felon who is kissing ass in the Middle East and shitting on the hard working struggling people of this country. You, and the rest of the Republican do-nothing party are looking out for yourselves when you were elected to help the people of North Carolina. I look forward to when you are up for election so I can vote you out of office and replace you with a Democrat, Independent, anyone else who is willing and actually will defend this democracy and the people of your state and nation.

Letting parents put $5,000 a year tax-free in a savings account for a child’s "education, a small business loan, or a house" sure is generous ... to rich fucks with $5k laying around unused, year after year. Sending junior to Harvard, or setting him up in business, or giving him a house, is SOP for those folks already, so making it tax-free is just frosting on the cake. (Their cake, not the one the peasants are supposed to eat.)

Spending $140bn to keep immigrants out is stupid squared, because immigrants commit fewer crimes than people already here, and boost the deficit more than people already here. We should spend zero, let every damn one of them in, and we'll all be richer for it.

Here is where I note that the Republican-Democrat difference on this question doesn't encompass what I just said above. They only disagree by degree of stupid.

There are Heritage Foundation writings about the U.S. not actually owing what everyone says we owe. Given the chance, I think they really would default on some pretext like this. They're idiot savants, where the savant part covers getting elected and doing things. Idiot things.

[United States DOGE offices, day.

Inside, a detective reviews some reports on the boys' Internet activity.

Wonkette waits on the other side of the table]

Wonkette

Um, sir-

DOGE

Shut up!! You keep complaining about tax cuts!

Says here you even opposed

Reagan's tax cuts? That's hard time you

are lookin' at. You got anything to

say for yourself?

Wonkette

We d-didn't think it was that big a

deal.

DOGE

Not a big deal! You think tax cuts

for Billionaires are not a big deal?! Put

your coats on! I'm gonna show you something!

And I don't think you're gonna like it!

[A mansion, somewhere, day. DOGE has taken Wonkette for

a ride and arrived here. He leads them to the main gate]

DOGE

This is the home of Elon Musk, the

head of DOGE. Look. There's

Elon now, sitting by his pool.

[he's seen sitting on the edge of a chaise longue, his face in his hands, softly sobbing]

Wonkette

What's the matter with him?

DETECTIVE

This month he was hoping to have a gold-plated

shark tank bar installed right next

to the pool, but thanks to people opposing tax cuts

for billionaires, he must now wait

a few months before he can afford it.

[a close-up of Elon sobbing]

Come. There's more.

[leads them away. Next seen is a small airport at night]

Here's Ivanka and Jared's private jet. Notice anything?

They used to have a Gulfstream 747-800.

Now they had to sell it and get a 747-400 because people

like you chose to oppose tax cuts.

[Ivanka gives a heavy sigh and goes inside.]

The 747-400

doesn't even have a remote control

for its surround-sound DVD system. Still

think opposing tax cuts is no big deal?

Wonkette

We... didn't realize what we were doing,

eh...

DOGE

That is the folly of man. Now look in

this window.

[they are at another mansion, and they look inside a picture window]

Here you see the loving

family of Mark Zuckerberg. Next week is his

son's birthday and, all he's ever wanted

was an island in French Polynesia.

Wonkette

So, he's gonna get it, right?

DETECTIVE

I see an island without an owner. If

things keep going the way they are,

the child will not get his tropical

paradise.

Wonkette

We're sorry! We'll, we'll never download

music for free again!

DOGE

Man must learn to think of these horrible

outcomes before he acts selfishly or

else... I fear...billionaires

will be forever doomed to a life of

only semi-luxury.

Why do working people keep voting for republicans when they when they want to cut Medicare and Medicaid to give huge tax breaks to the billionaires and corporations? VOTE BLUE

Expand full comment
Wookiee Monster's avatar

Because republicans give them someone else to blame for why their lives are so shitty. Instead of admitting corporations don’t want to pay a livable wage and insurance companies are keeping them from getting health care, republicans tell them that they are poor and unhealthy because of trans girls and immigrants.

I love your posts, but saying, β€œ after Trump will either be gone or be president for life” isn’t clever or amusing. Stating and restating ideas like this increases their impact and reality - makes them more of a potential reality. It’s like saying, β€œDon’t think about a pink elephant.”

I’m absolutely aware of the GOP’s core fantasy that trickle down economics is more than just Ronnie Raygun’s dementia-induced wet dream, if it can only be imposed CRUELLY enough. But it’s just really hard for me to believe that there aren’t at least a handful of them who live in districts with people who are smart enough to realize this shit will hurt them, and will take it out on their Representative who voted for it. It seems like the self-serving nature of all their decisionmaking would make them consider maybe opposing it, for no other reason that they like their cushy job.

But I guess I’m not taking into account the fear factor…fear of being primaried, and/or of their family being murdered. Both unfortunately very real fears. And the GOP has not exactly self-selected for courage as a personal trait since John McCain fucked off. So…we’re screwed?

WHA--- though the bill does not actually give parents of newborns any money, it just lets parents put $5,000 a year tax-free in a savings account for a child’s education, a small business loan, or a house.

So you can save your own money - bitch, if I'd 5000 extra dollars when my kids were infants, I would have saved it.

fair_n_hite_451's avatar

It's yet another hand out to the rich. They can afford the $5000, and will save the taxes they would have normally paid on that money. But poor people can not only not afford to save $5000, they wouldn't save any money even if they could, because their tax rate is already small.
