How Many Years Is The Nazi Who Murdered Heather Heyer Going To Prison For? ALL OF THE YEARS.
GOOD.
This morning, after spending Monday hearing victim impact statements, the jury in James Alex Fields's trial -- which on Friday found him guilty on all 10 counts he was charged with -- delivered their sentencing recommendations.
For the murder of Heather Heyer, the Charlottesville jury gave Fields a life sentence and a fine of $100,000. For each of the three charges of aggravated malicious wounding, they sentenced him to 70 years and fines of $70,000. For each of the five charges of malicious wounding, 20 years in prison and fines of $10,000, and nine years for the hit and run. All in all, this comes out to a life sentence plus 419 years and $480,000. Judge Richard Moore accepted the jury's verdicts, but will hold off on officially sentencing Fields until March 19.
After the jury delivered their recommendations, prosecutors and Heyer's mother Susan Bro addressed media outside the courthouse.

Speaking to reporters, Bro said:
I thank the jury for their careful and thoughtful work, I thank his defense team for putting up a defense and trying to help the young man — but in the end, the hands of justice say that he needs to be kept away from society for a while. And I'm content with that.
So we move forward. We still have social justice work to do. We flipped the House, barely, and we still have much, much, much work to do. With election work, with civil rights work. Black lives still matter. And the things that Heather died for, I'm not seeing a lot of progress in the last year and a half.
So, let's take heart in the fact that we have won a victory today, but keep in mind that we must, must, must put direct action to our words. I'm tired of catch phrases, I'm tired of people making nice sounding words, and nothing happens. So let's do what [prosecutors] Joe and Nina did where they made this happen, and let's all get busy ourselves.
In the responses to NBC 29's tweets covering the Fields trial, and elsewhere on social media, neo-Nazi supporters are still trying to push various conspiracy theories about what really happened in Charlottesville. Despite the fact that Heyer was clearly hit by Fields's car, despite the fact that there are photos of this happening, despite the fact that Dr. Jennifer Bowers, the assistant chief medical examiner for Virginia, testified at trial that Heyer died from massive blunt force trauma after being hit with his car, the Nazis are still screaming that she really died of a heart attack.

This same stupid conspiracy theory was recently promoted by a Nazi YouTuber called E;R, whose bullshit was recently promoted by Pewdiepie, YouTube's most popular "personality." Nice!
Following the verdict on Friday, several prominent Nazis -- including Christopher "Crying Nazi" Cantwell -- vowed revenge on the Left for what they see as an unfair conviction, claiming that it will turn otherwise peaceful Nazis into "fanatics who are willing to die" for their cause.

Sure, he can't even hold on to a Twitter account, but people are gonna let him write the history books? I don't think so.
Following the sentencing recommendations, Fields's defense attempted to renew several previous motions, including one to lessen the charge of first degree murder, but were promptly rejected by Judge Moore. Fields may not get the exact sentence the jury recommended, but it doesn't seem like Judge Moore is going to let this ass out of prison, ever.
Good.

No, when you murder somebody and have no remorse, and get a life sentence, no, there is no point in trying to change the convicted murderer. We need to isolate him from society.
Fuck no.
Did a terrible thing? He deliberately ran his car into a packed crowd of people. At speed. He deliberately murdered a woman. He injured dozens of others, but he was trying to murder them too. The injuries are not cuts and scrapes, we are talking broken backs, shattered bones, ruptured organs, and more, from the blunt force trauma of running his car into a packed crowd. It was not a mistake. It was not a little accident.
Fuck him. He can change his ways in prison. And he can die in prison a changed man. He's not being warehoused. He's being taken out of civilized society because society in the form of a jury of his peers have decided he is to dangerous to be among us.
On top of that he is a Nazi. There is no place in any civilized society for him. None.
