My father flew Med-Evac helicopters for the Army during Vietnam. He was shot down 3 times before his 21st birthday.

I wish that disgusting bag of draft-dodging blubber several eternities of experiencing the fear and agony of every slain US soldier.

I have been looking for a way to express this sentiment, but never even got close to this: “Then, as is normal when he’s not in use, Cheung folded himself back up again into his own asshole. It’s really something to see.”

I hope never to see it again, ever. Or him, though it might be equally amusing if when he did fold- since there’s no selvage to him he’d likely become a pile of thread on the floor in seconds. One can hope.

Thank you for validating my old SNL Morgan Fairchild references that no one around me seems to get.

Jeff Tiedrich wrote about the cost of the funeral on his news letter today. Minus the security that is how much Michael Jackson's funeral cost. Of course he had a 25, 000 dollar casket and a 35,000 dollar suit. Who in their right mind other than some rich person has a 60,000 dollar funeral. You can have a perfectly fine funeral for 10,000 dollars. I would have to see the bill to believe the funeral to believe funeral cost 60,000. I would not be surprised if it was 6,000 and Trump just didn't want to pay. That is the kind of person he is. I don't believe I have read anything where he helped some one out.

Alex Pfeiffer must be the CDO... Chief Denial Officer... in the Trump Org.

Ta, Dok. This story is so fucking heartbreaking. Our junior Senator, Kirsten Gillibrand, tried over and over to remove sexual assault cases in the military from the chain of command. Guess who stopped her?

"Kelly told me Trump was not acquainted with Rommel."

My father fought against Rommel in North Africa.

If my father were alive, he'd be fighting Trump too.

So did my Grandpa. Interestingly, we didn't know that until we found his military papers in an old trunk many years after he had died. He didn't talk about his time in the war.

He'd been in Italy, too. I wish he could have seen those beautiful places under better circumstances.

Obvious assholery aside - I *am* curious to know why the $60k hasn’t been addressed in the media. The average funeral isn’t anywhere near that. He’s pure shit but he wasn’t wrong about the absurdity of the bill.

gene108's avatar

$60k is less than couch cushion money to the U.S. government.

Our government failed Pvt. Guillen. Paying less than chump change for the government to a grieving family isn’t asking for much.

I don’t see the problem.

Edit: Trump is basically a petty micromanaging small business owner, who just lucked into inheriting $400 million (or whatever his daddy fronted him) to start it up.

ETA: He cannot get over the mindset of a micromanaging petty small business owner. It’s all he knows and is capable of understanding.

coco lurks from home's avatar

That’s not my question. “The government” didn’t get the bill. The bill went to the family. They sent it to the WH because PAB said he’d pay it. But he didn’t. So the family is still on the hook for what is a really outrageous amount. It’s not the government’s problem, it’s theirs.

ETA: I mean, to say nothing of the question of why the family was invoiced at all for the burial expense of a soldier killed on duty. I just have a lot of questions here and I think it’s strange that no journalists seem to be clarifying what happened.

Tammy Scumbag's avatar

Why didn't the Army pay for it all? They could have covered the entire cost of the funeral and it still would have been the very least they could do.

coco lurks from home's avatar

Exactly. And even if the family was paying for a portion of it, you’d think they’d be getting a military discount from any reputable funeral home. This was ten times the average, it’s bizarre. And no one is asking?

coco lurks from home's avatar

Back atcha. I want to know who charged this family ten times the normal amount for a funeral.

Geez, Dok, I'm lucky I wasn't enjoying a cooling beverage when I read that.

Rommel didn’t participate in the plot to kill Hitler. He simply had knowledge of it and was allowed to save face and military honor by committing suicide.

Tina Mouse's avatar

According to the Rise and Fall of the 3rd Reich he did participate. However, he was so incredibly popular that he had to die in some way not related to the plot.

My hat off, and a salute to boot, if Kelly could rattle that definition of fascism off the top of his head.
