so they're gonna sell off all the land to disguise the fact that they've cut their revenue base to a point that is unsustainable, is what i'm hearing

If Harriet Hageman wants it...Virginia Foxx will, too. And so will Doctor Ronny. All the best people, who are the ones left voting on crap like this.

"The whatever of whatever other cities are in Utah..."

The whatever of Wendover, Gary. Don't ask me for another, though. Wendover is the only other town in Utah I know off the top of my head.

Senator Mike Hunt (oops, I mean Lee) is a poop chute.

Ta, Gary. Our National Parks, National Monuments, and National Forests are fucking NOT for fucking sale! What's next? The Lady Liberty Condo Complex. GFY, Mike Lee.

They think logic, deductive reasoning, and critical thinking are a Democratic hoax pushed by the woke liberals.

"As Utah Goes So Goes the Nation". Think about that, please!

"See, the government isn’t selling the land, it’s just initiating a process that will allow it to sell the land. Totally different thing."

Ah, the old Vanilla Ice defense.

Nobody formulates a plan unless they intend to put it into action.

Except maybe a competent military. They game out everything!

Okay, Mikey, please explain what benefit the American people will receive for selling their lands at low, low prices? It seems like if you're selling somebody's land, they should eventually get a check in the mail reflecting that. It would be nice especially if you open a coal mining operation next to somebody's ranch. What is going to happen to our money, Mikey? Inquiring minds want to know.

Biff52 vrag naroda's avatar

There are many billionaires that really need that money!

My own MAGAt representative is opposed to selling off land around Lake Tahoe. Some ranchers nearer my home are trying to convince him that our land is just as in need of protection, what with Yosemite, Death Valley, Mt. Whitney, etc all at risk of if not imminent sale, at least sales right up to their boundaries.

Hell of a storm on Lake Tahoe this weekend. Not a good day to be a boater.

Yeah, not good for at least one boatload of people. RIP

Meanwhile, billionaires get to enjoy a less than 5% effective tax rate. Brilliant!!

Most federal land is not located anywhere near a city or town, is not arable and is already leased to cattle ranchers. It would not be feasible or practical to build residential buildings on it. So it stands to reason that the land would be sold to skeevy bastards like Musk or the Trump Organization, rich assholes who will build resorts and golf courses while draining aquifers that supply communities hundreds of miles away.

RRJKR's avatar

Meaning a fire sale price of about $1,000/acre at best. $250 billion gross sale proceeds, which covers less that 128 days of DOD operations. BFD!

Remember also that every extreme act by the MAGAs is at least partially a show of strength against us. The messaging is "we will do whatever we want," and these acts culminate into court decisions meant to deter them, but these court orders are now being routinely ignored. The democracy is destroyed at this point. When one branch of government rides roughshod over the others, it's a dictatorship.

Biff52 vrag naroda's avatar

Proceeds from the land sales would go toward tax cuts for their sponsors. Continued Defense ops will still, always and forever, be funded by taxes on us proles.

Marycat2021's avatar

It's just as likely that there will be no "sales" but that the government will simply lease the land to developers in exchange for a share of the profits.

Personally, I would be happy if Teddy's ghost would settle for doing what he wanted to do to an insolent coal mogul who annoyed him during a labor mediation. As Roosevelt said later on, he had to fight down an impulse to grab the jerk by the scruff of his neck and the seat of his pants and throw him through a window.

So he'll still vote for this, because it doesn't *require* land sales, "it’s just initiating a process that will allow it to sell the land."
