Huckabee: Not Just Stupid About AIDS Anymore
I always sort of wondered how the sort of person who is obsessed with the sanctity of life of of a fetus could manage to justify their support of the death penalty. Luckily, Huckabee has an answer for me. Whee!
In 1997, Huckabee told a call-in show audience :
"Interestingly enough, if there was ever an occasion for someone to have argued against the death penalty, I think Jesus could have done so on the cross and said, "This is an unjust punishment and I deserve clemency."
So, basically, since Jesus didn't ask for clemency (though, according to Matthew 15: 34, he did cry out "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" but that's not asking for it to stop or anything), Jesus is obviously cool with the state putting people to death. Thus sayeth Preacher Huckabee, so it must be true. Someone might want totell the Pope that he should jump on this bandwagon, rather than trying to swim against the tide of capital punishment supporters. It's what Jesus wanted.
