If you can convince yourself that this is okay to do to asylum-seekers, you can convince yourself that it's okay to do to anyone. It's not hard to find a reason to dehumanize anyone. If voter suppression, gerrymandering, and a complicit Supreme Court succeed, I'm afraid that the US in 2033 will look a lot like Germany was in 1933.

And I'm really tired of hearing about MAGAts' Christian values.

Karen Bass used the right word - evil - to describe Abbott's actions.

He's not my governor. He may be elected but I have no respect for him or his actions. Karma can be a cruel woman, Greg.

Abbott and DeSantis are not the first to bus the “undesirables” to own the libs. Rachel Maddow covered the “freedom rides” in the 60s on her Deja News podcast.

At this time, I encourage all Texans to recognize the joyful gift that life is. Together, we can work toward a day when the dignity and humanity of every life is respected.

Therefore, I, Greg Abbott, Governor of Texas, do hereby proclaim January 22, 2018, to be

Sanctity of Human Life Day

How can this not be illegal?

Isn't it kidnapping, or human trafficking?

`

"In sum, to be guilty of Kidnapping under CPC §207(a), the prosecution must prove that:

You took or held someone through force or fear; AND,

You moved, or made the person move, a substantial distance; AND,

The other person didn't consent; AND,

You didn't actually believe the person consented."

It is kidnapping and human trafficking. Texans need to roll Abbott into the Rio Grande, with votes.

"asylum seekers.. might think the US is safer than the places they’re fleeing"

It has occurred to me lately that one has to wonder whether migrants really realize where it is they're fleeing to. Not all Americans live in giant McMansions with four bedrooms plus a suite above the garage and an in-ground pool out back - but Hollywood sure does make it seem that way.

In the end it is vastly safer and worth it for them to come. They may be overestimating where they are heading to but, I grew up in a fairly rough / high crime area (port of Los Angeles) and this is still vastly better than the violence and corruption refugees are leaving a lower class USA "ghetto" is an improvement over open warfare/ territory fighting by narcos.

I hope so. Some days it just seems like between gun violence and galloping fascism, we don't have anywhere near as much to offer as once we did.

Time to seize the busses/planes under suspicion of human trafficking. This will discourage any transportation company from taking Abbotts business.

I've said this time and again. For months. Confiscating some company's assets so they can't do business would end this shit right quick.

And ya know how the wheels of justice turn slowly? Throw some sand into the gears of those specific cases so that no lawyer is getting any sort of relief.

How about a class action against Abbott and Texas, for the negligent/deliberate infliction of emotional distress? Isn't there anything that a clever attorney can figure out here?

update: Ah, I shoulda known that the wonkers would come thru with ideas downstream!

wonder if the states he is doing this to could do that. Texas does get some Fed dollars for dealing with assylum seekers

He is obviously pocketing the money and not turning it to the states he is doing this to.
