My wife’s coworker put up a sign that said “we practice love” and a neighbor got upset so the HOA made her take it down because the by-laws don’t allow campaign signs. Wtf.

Just asked a few 4th graders about this story (just gave them the gist). A sample:
Mathew/4th grade/white male, asked me if there were Black hands on the banner, and when I told him there were hands of all hues, said, "That's racist, then [to be asked to take it down]."
Lily/4th grade/white female: "I don't always feel welcome, but I like those signs [around the school]. [Being asked to take it down] doesn't make any sense."
These white kids are not offended and they see things for what they are.
“Everyone is welcome here” is divisive now. Because under Trump, it’s the bigots whose feelings are most valued, guarded and cared for. What about the people who do NOT feel everyone is welcome here, huh? Are puppy-eating Haitians welcome here? Are Mexican rapists welcome here? Are snooty French people welcome here? Ungrateful Ukrainians? See? We cannot vilify groups of people with all this unity and inclusion crap.
I so can’t wait for this terrible, dark era to be over. This political climate and governing party represent the worst of us.
So a sign about inclusivity is divisive because it excludes people who don't believe in inclusivity. In order to include them we need to be neutral about inclusivity, because the most important thing is to include everyone, especially people who don't believe everyone should be included.

“Everyone is welcome here, even the people who do not want everyone to feel welcome here, and that’s ok, terrible people have feelings too, so while everyone is welcome, we can’t obligate shitty people to welcome everyone.”
Without fail, WITHOUT FAIL, administrators in small school districts are the sanctimonious, smarmy pubes who begged for homework over Spring Break, and who scream about “school pride” when nobody shows up to their high school class reunions.
Republicans are such killjoys. I'm with Amanda Marcotte. We need to constantly remind everyone that Republicans are prudes and scolds who can't even imagine relaxing and having a good time.
