Coca-Cola, for example, manages to sell Coke Zero, Tab, Diet Coke, and numerous variants on both Coke and Diet Coke, as well as Sprite and Fresca, Dasani and SmartWater.
In Las Vegas, the same business--I think the parent is MGM?--owns the MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, the Luxor, and the Bellagio. But Vegas has a huge tourism market, and those casinos are clearly, highly differentiated, with specific demographic and population and economic targets. I was actually surprised the same company owns them all.
Atlantic City, meanwhile, is a seedy poor cousin, and Trump, who revels in his own ignorance, no doubt opened three similar casinos, aimed at the same target customer, with no appeal, and then allowed them to cannibalize each other.
