Several journalists covering the protests in Los Angeles against the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown have reported being attacked by law enforcement over the last several days, prompting condemnation and a call on authorities to do “more to ensure press freedom is respected”.
Some were struck by rubber bullets and fired at with pepper balls while one crew was briefly detained while broadcasting live...
Investigative reporter Sergio Olmos from CalMatters told the Washington Post he was hit on Sunday by what he believes was a 40mm sponge grenade.
Olmos, who said he has covered hundreds of protests, described the use of less-lethal rounds on Sunday as the “most” he’s seen “used in a single day protest”...
The British photographer Nick Stern, who is based in LA, told the Guardian he was wounded on Saturday by what appeared to be a less-lethal projectile fired at him while covering the protest, and said that the injury required surgery...
A New York Times reporter was also hit by a non-lethal round in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday, the newspaper said. The reporter was assessed at a hospital but not seriously injured.
On Sunday, a freelance photographer for the New York Post was hit in the head by a less-lethal round while covering the protests on California’s 101 freeway. The photographer, who says he was wearing his press pass, said a California Highway Patrol officer fired at him from about 100 yards away...
The California Highway Patrol did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Hunter S. Thompson wrote an article titled "Strange Rumblings in Aztlan" for Rolling Stone magazine in 1971, which investigated the killing of Ruben Salazar, a Mexican-American journalist and activist, by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department in 1970.
Here's a breakdown of the key points about the incident and Thompson's reporting:
The Incident: Ruben Salazar was killed during the National Chicano Moratorium protest against the Vietnam War on August 29, 1970. A Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy fired a tear gas canister into the Silver Dollar Bar where Salazar was sitting, striking and instantly killing him.
Official Narrative vs. Thompson's View: The police claimed Salazar's death was accidental, but Thompson argued that the L.A. Sheriff's department was ready to defend it as justified. He believed Salazar was murdered by police for no reason.
"Strange Rumblings in Aztlan": Thompson's article detailed the history of violence and repression in Los Angeles barrios, as well as the events leading up to and following Salazar's death. He questioned the official accounts, comparing them to eyewitness testimony and highlighting the inconsistencies.
Oscar Zeta Acosta: Thompson's main source for the article was Oscar Zeta Acosta, a prominent Mexican-American activist and attorney. Acosta contacted Thompson after Salazar's death to investigate. Their trip to Las Vegas, partly to discuss the case freely away from the tense atmosphere in Los Angeles, became the basis for Thompson's famous book "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas," with Acosta inspiring the character of Dr. Gonzo.
Significance: Thompson's article brought the story of Salazar and the Chicano movement to a wider audience and contributed to the public's understanding of police brutality and its impact on minority communities.
I am fairly certain my ex-husband has or will go down this path, lord help him. He had already turned into AI do-your-own-research guy and was trying to become an expert by reading articles online about AI. (This was one of the things that he said I was too mean to him about-I wouldn't call him an expert on AI for reading on the internet.)
That is some whacked shit, yo. Because I AM the Flamekeeper! Everybody *knows* that.
Seriously ... this is another example of addictive behavior as it relates to tech use. Similar addictive behaviors have occurred (are occurring) with social media.
Also looked up the sample ballot for Tuesday. Idk if it’s because it’s a primary or what but Arlington is not doing ranked choice voting this time. So all my trying to figure out which of Stoney and Hashmi were ranked 2 or 3 was all pointless. Lol
Yeah, the district next door is also having a primary for the House of Delegates, but mine’s not. Guess Adele McClure remains too awesome to primary, lol. (I do really like her she’s great at communicating what she’s done each year)
This morning’s metro walk in decided to top yesterday’s. Two young male deer with nubby maybe six to eight inch horns were grazing only a block from my place!
They do, generally around the beginning of winter. But I usually only see urban deer in the spring and summer, when their antlers are mostly grown in, if they had them.
I am thinking that the national/cultural equivalent of 𝘋𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘩 𝘣𝘺 𝘖𝘯𝘦 𝘛𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘊𝘶𝘵𝘴 (the ancient Chinese method of execution by torture, not any of the many pop songs) is 𝘋𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘩 𝘣𝘺 𝘖𝘯𝘦 𝘛𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘈𝘥𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘺𝘴.
Well, I had a delicious meal of fried and boiled shrimp last night and today is "colonoscopy prep" so I cannot eat. I mean really, if they want to get more people to get their inner assholes checked, they should start by making the prep less uncomfortable. Appointment is at 9AM tomorrow, fortunately, but they are making me wake up at 3AM to drink more "prep".
My local paper has a story bragging about 14 buildings owned by the local school district that were certified as Energy Star building, which means they meet all sorts energy waste prevention criteria. I am happy about thos because I pay A LOT of property taxes towards our schools. I am glad the district has made this a priority. I wish they would get rid of the contractors they have hired to run building ops, though.
Only a year late, been watching the 2nd season of "Spy X Family."
A little short at the end of the 2nd episode has Anya going to the pool, where she picks up the thoughts of (I think more than one) boy going, "Darn, I just peed in the pool. Well, it's not like anyone will know."
Cut to Anya sitting all depressed in front of the TV: "I'm never going to the pool again."
Asylum seekers also don't tend to hang around outside of immigration courtrooms.

I wonder if the New York Post is just now realizing that they're not on Trump's Super Special Boys and Girls list?
You’d think THIS would be a little too close to home for the media and they would start doing their real job.
I wonder if they will defrnd their reporters as hard as they defended Doocey when Obama wanted outvof the WH press briefings.
hm. Once is a mistake.
Four, five, six times? They are being targeted. Maybe to try and prevent evidence of just who is being violent
It always devolves to this, yet they always can’t believe THEY might be targeted by police. Very gradual learning curve.
I think reporters on the ground know the dangers. It's the bobble heads back on the office who are shocked.
Oh, guys! Someone shared this about people going crazy talking to chatbots and boy is it a DOOZY!

That's frightening, in part because ChatGPT isn't even _trying_ to cause mental health crises.
I needed the article about an Atari 2600 trouncing ChatGPT at chess after reading that.

Cool! I have never seen bucks with antlers just starting to grow in. All I ever see are does or fawns too young for antlers.
Don't white tail shed their antlers yearly? We probably see bucks lots and lots without realizing it I am thinking
They do, generally around the beginning of winter. But I usually only see urban deer in the spring and summer, when their antlers are mostly grown in, if they had them.
