I am older than the Superbowl and I remember when the halftime show was cheerleaders and creepily bad singing groups like Up With People and the New Christy Minstrels (which is also horribly racist because the Old Christy Minstrels did not need a resurrection). True Story - in 2014, I was working downtown at the brand new attraction, the College Football Hall of Fame. The annual Microsoft world-wide convention was in town and they had rented out all the venues, including the Phillips Arena and Centennial Olympic Park. Rumors flew all day about who was playing the concert in the park, extra private with black draping over all the fences. I was coming out of work when the sound check started. All the Microsoft attendees were in the arena for some dog & pony show. The artist was Gaga! I got to hear her whole soundcheck! People had already gathered around on the side streets to lurk, as we do, and I heard later that the opening act was Outkast!
