My ex was killed in Chicago in 2016, weeks after she got a restraining order on her then-fiance. He wanted her to have a threesome with one of his friends. She refused. He hit her and she left. Got the restraining order and a few weeks after, he put three in her stomach and left her to die. He drove to Minneapolis where he surrendered with the murder weapon, which was likely not registered. Good on Pritzker for doing the right thing. I just wish this narcissistic and violent country would do the same.

There is a Bluesky option to the Share button (on desktop.) I believe on a phone you have to click the "more" button after clicking the Share button to see the option to share to Bluesky.

Slightly OT- If you have a stash of illegal weapons, calling the police to your house is a very bad idea:

Gov. Pritzker changed the name of Lake Michigan to Lake Illinois. He even had a press conference. I love this guy.

Fortunately, my state (NH) has had a law like this since 1999, revised in 2013. There was no law like this in the ‘70s when my family was involved in situations like this. I remember the cops taking my dad’s rifles after the last incident though I don’t remember the details of how that came to be. I think they talked him into it. Hooray for progress but boo for why it’s 2025 and this isn’t law everywhere.

Fuck Yeah JB! Glad I live in your state. Sucks that it has taken more than a quarter of a millennia in this country to do one simple thing. And it's not even the COUNTRY that's taking this up. It's one damn blue state, surrounded by red states full of the supporters of the Ferret-Wearing-Shit-Gibbon that have little to no gun laws, to do this. Guns flood into Illinois from Wisconsin, Iowa, and especially Indiana, then people wonder why Chicago is so violent (it's not that violent).

Cuts, according to ProPublica, specifically to a group that was storing and making accessible to the public all the information the Department of Education has for keeping schools across the country accountable. So, if you don't have any local newspapers anymore, and you want to know if the school in your area is good or not, good luck to you. I guess you can trust reviews people put on the internet?

"'Are they dumb?' Critics let loose as Republican introduces bill to rename Greenland"

https://www.rawstory.com/greenland-renamed/?

'Georgia Rep. Buddy Carter (R-GA) put forth a bill Tuesday called the "Red, White, and Blueland Act of 2025." According to the Post, the act "directs the secretary of the interior’s team to ensure federal paperwork gets updated to the new name and gives a six-month deadline to complete that task."

"In a statement to The New York Post, Carter declared, “America is back and will soon be bigger than ever with the addition of Red, White, and Blueland."

"He continued, "President Trump has correctly identified the purchase of what is now Greenland as a national security priority, and we will proudly welcome its people to join the freest nation to ever exist when our Negotiator-in-Chief inks this monumental deal.”

According to The Post, "Secretary of State Marco Rubio has defended the president’s goal of taking Greenland by highlighting U.S. military support for the island territory and a 1951 treaty to defend it in the event of an attack."

"Rubio said during a podcast interview, “If we’re already on the hook for having to do that, then we might as well have more control over what happens there. This is not a joke. This is not about acquiring land for the purpose of acquiring land. This is in our national interest and it needs to be solved.”
