So I am probably not going to enjoy the answer to this, but are the prisoners asking for any safety provisions in their suit? Are trans women going to be stuck in men's prisons? Because that sounds awful.

The Idaho lawsuit does not revolve around safety provisions, though the court has some power to order parties before it to behave in certain ways during the litigation. This could include orders not to retaliate against the prisoners, etc. as necessary.

Other lawsuits, like the one in Washington, are more tightly integrated with issues of safety and as such the judge in question not only has the power to order the defendants not to harm the plaintiff or the plaintiff's interest during the conduct of litigation but also the nature of the suit might lead to a decision protecting the plaintiff's safety over the longer term.

All that said, one guard whispering one suggestion to one particularly unethical or violent inmate, then one moment of neglect placing that person in an uncontrolled area with the plaintiff is all that the state needs to inflict serious harm. That kind of retaliation is notoriously difficult to prevent before the fact or even prove afterward.

Our prisons are not safe. Not for trans people, and not for cis people.

Yeah, you’re right: the whole system is a disaster. This probably freaks me out because I’ve experienced the shit that happens to women so I can picture it most clearly. But it’s all awful and stomach-turning.

A recent rally rant was (sic) "they are doing sex change operations on school kids, you say goodbye in the morning to Jimmy and a few days later someone else walk through the door." His debate coaches may have asked him to not go with that on national tv, so his tangled cobweb brain may be combining stories with their approved targets of trans and immigrants...he describes that as weaving and thinks it's genius. Many English professors friends of Trump, who is smart, very smart, he went to Wharton and did he tell you about his uncle? Smartest man, and he knows about the nuclear, anyway, big strong English professors with tears in their eyes, never cried before, they say his weaving is the smartest, like the late great Hannibal Lector, who was also a professor who ate people, but not pets because he was English, not from a shithole country. And that is why Trump won the debate!

Excusing his mouth blartings as having any connection to reality when they clearly do not is not really laziness. The had to go back to a questionnaire from 2019 for this one: so someone had to comb all their material for Kamala talking about prisons and gender reassignment. Then they had to take what they found and make it fit whatever he baa'd. That seems like a lot of work to me.

Which leads me to believe they are doing this on purpose because they are complicit.

I could go with that.

But why are they doing it?

Is it just the horserace, ratings & clicks?

"Okay."

"Aren't you outraged?"

"Not really."

"Well, you should be! They're getting something we're not. We have to work for it!"

"So... you want the government to give you free health care too?"

"No! That's socialism!"

Just rob a bank. Or join a violent mob invading the Capitol and assault cops. Then you can get free medical care courtesy of Uncle Sam. I’m not sure about conditions in Idaho prisons, but I doubt you will think five years in the DC prison system is worth what free medical care you get. It was atrocious when I lived in the area in the 1960s and reports show it has not improved.
