I absolutely love this! Weirdos are the best, and an honest weirdo is someone I'd happily vote for! I'm so glad he and his family were able to escape his father.

Always great to see when young people overcome their "legacy" and "heritage".

Thanks for this article!

It also makes a nice follow-up to Evan's most recent blog, which one can find here: https://evanhurst.substack.com/p/if-libsoftiktok-and-charlie-kirk?lli=1

"An honest weirdo over a Spirit Halloween cowboy" -- well, that right there would get him my vote.

oscarphile's avatar

Is it possible MAGA idiots might vote for him because the only thing they know about him is that he's an insurrectionist's son? Maybe they'll not notice the capital D on the ballot?

Villago Delenda Est 🇺🇦's avatar

Can't be dismissed. The MAGAts are indeed that stupid.

Ta, Dok. Victory for Vindman!

Joke's on you Trump: Just try to preside over a Nation of Democrats! Bwahhhhaahahahahahah!

I regret that I can spare only a few dollars for the honest weirdo.

So the party that has spent the past two years promising payback and retribution is now saying revenge is bad?

clairence's avatar

only when it's directed at them

I've already given my deposit-bottle bucks to Eugene Vindman. I think that putting him in Congress would make this country a better place in some possibly detectable way.

I live in MT 1st and he is definitely not our candidate. To the best of my knowledge, he is running in MN1st. Our Democratic candidate is Monica Tranel, a wonderfully talented individual, who will be taking on Zinke.

AWGpic's avatar

Suspect he is running for a state legislature position.

Johnny Appleseed's avatar

Zinke should be in prison with Trump.

Va 7 is a weird mostly redrawn district. It was, when she won it, drawn to be a R+5 district (this state had a horrifying gerrymander for years). It was the……mostly upper class west end of Richmond and much of the rural that’s now part of Bob Good’s fifth. With the redraw it’s now Fredricksburg and the surrounding areas. That’s still a lot of rural but it’s also where the Northern Virginia metropolis keeps expanding. The young man election was in many ways its own weird discrete thing (again it’s impossible to express just how bad of a job Terry Mac did). I think in the battle of legitimate hero vs MAGA extremist vindman’s got this.

I think the thing I like most about the Montana Dem, aside from showing that one can just not force others to be Nazi assholes, even your own kids

Is he’s not trying to pander. He’s just authentically trying for a longshot standing up for what he believes in. I’m a big believer that most don’t actually have strong beliefs on political theory and that even the most MAGA extremists are just there for social acceptance.

Fully expecting him to lose, but I love the fact he’s trying

Runfastandwin's avatar

(most) Voters will always respond to authenticity. It's how Tester got elected and will get reelected.

I agree. Big Jon is very down-to-earth real and sensible. This kid seems like he's learned a ton about NOT being an asshole and expecting certain outcomes. How can one win if they don't at least try? I hope some people in his district are interested in hearing his unique perspective.

THIS!

So glad to see the myth of 'only a conservative democrat can win in a red state' go the way of the dodo...There's a dude in WV running as a Democrat for senate who's 'authentic'

Like you say its THAT that people respond to

belfryo's avatar

"“Montana elections happen at the doorstep,” he said. “So far, my reception has been surprisingly positive at doors, [despite] canvassing dressed like Alice Cooper and openly admitting to being a progressive Democrat, or self-identifying even as a Democratic socialist when asked."

I like it when progressive democratic socialists don't shy away from it

MOAR please...

I think I’m gonna send some monies to Adams next payday.

belfryo's avatar

I love that he doesn't use weasel words

belfryo's avatar

"Anderson is already projecting heavily, accusing Vindman of “only running for revenge — revenge against Donald Trump and revenge against Republicans,”

I am 100% OK with that...We could use a LOT more rank vindictiveness and 'revenge' thinking in the party...I see no downside

Pauly2coffees's avatar

You can’t spell “vindictive man” without “Vindman.”

belfryo's avatar

And THERE'S the campaign slogan

Summer starts in 20 minutes where I am.

What's your go-to summer cocktail?

StructuralCat PE, SE's avatar

Sweet tea. I don't drink alcohol because of some arthritis meds I have to take.

What's yours?

Richard S's avatar

Whatever keeps you cool and hydrated.

For me, anything with gin.

"...that Vindman isn’t guaranteed a win since Gov. Glenn Youngkin won that district by 4.9 points in 2021, although Spanberger came right back and was reelected in 2022 by a 4.6 point margin."

Virginia, my home state, is fucking WEIRD that way...Never have I seen a larger more spineless, convictionless disengaged voting base...One cycle they vote blue, then next, red...To know SO LITTLE about the profound differences between the parties that it's just apples and oranges for them...The memory hole is HUGE in this state

Mark Linimon's avatar

Possibly explainable by just "vote the bastards out".
