Ari Melber on MSNBC is good at explaining stuff and always offers "both sides."

I think so, anyway.

Canceled my WaPo subscription when Will Lewis was hired as CEO. Knowing that he cut his editorial teeth working for Murdoch in the UK was just a bridge too far for me. Now that the term has finally expired, I'm bombarded with offers to renew--$1/month or something.

I didn't cancel because it cost too much. I canceled for the principle of the thing. Although principles are something Bezos is seemingly unfamiliar with.

And so it goes.

Trump is a constant firehose of BREAKING NEWS bullshit. He's the meal ticket for the media, so of course they're gonna enable him.

My disappointment in WAPO is extreme. Been a reader since 4th grade, the not so slow disintegration of a fine news outlet is like watching an old friend die. Curse Bezos and all of his lickspittle companions.

I think I paid for a year all at once. Or is it monthly for a year? I am my handle, exspecially when it's about tech stuff. I wanna go back to 1995, please. At any rate, I feel I can now play here guilt-free. But I would like to know when my year is up. I mean, who writes this stuff down?

Am I the only one who believes acquiring more land for the USA would be fantastic? It shouldn’t be Trump because he’s an inept anus. And it shouldn’t be through war or conquest. But would some of the land in Greenland be available? Why not, no one’s there, and because we so badly altered the climate for the worse, Greenland will actually become more… green.

Maybe we should focus on getting our own shit together before exporting it to other countries.

Since we already have a base there, we could do it suburb by suburb. Accretion.

Like an amoeba of ticky tacky tract homes... oozing out across the newly exposed ground.

I've heard that Iceland is called Iceland to keep people out because it is so small; and Greenland called Greenland for the exact opposite reasons.

The funny thing about annexing Canada is that a good chunk of Canada 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴𝘯'𝘵 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘊𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘥𝘢. They sure as hell don't want to be part of the United States.

Just *talking* about it like that is so ridiculous and fucking obscene. Media should be all "WTF is he talking about? And what you said so loudly above. Why ain't the Merkan media saying it like that? Things he says are crazy and they should be presented as crazy. Oh well, hello choir. How ya doing. Shoutin' into the wind here.

Through Denmark, Greenland is part of NATO, and Canada is outright a NATO member. Any action either of these countries would automatically trigger Article 5 requiring NATO to defend them. Apparently Vlad has been after Greenland for some time, which may explain things. As for Canada, it's clear Dump can't handle his jealousy of its prime minister, who makes him look even worse than dog crap.

I feel like 2024 was similar to shit circling in the toilet before disappearing into the sewer system. This circling may have its fun moments and even minor thrills, but it is a matter of contemplating the locale and destination and I am in no mood to recount this.

I am just praying that the psycho who got his clutches on the LA Times does not fuck up the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books. I hear it doesn't make money, so it might escape his radar and be safe. But we're already planning to go to it this April, and I hope we'll be able to do so moving forward.

As for journalism:

Domestic:

MeidasTouch

Deep State Radio

Numerous Substacks--Heather Cox Richardson, Simon Rosenberg, Paul Krugman, Joyce White Vance, Jay Kuo, and too many others to mention.

International:

The Guardian

BBC (sometimes)

Also some Substacks--Malcolm Nance, Timothy Snyder, Ruth Ben-Ghiat

Fuck off, legacy media. I have better places to spend my time and money TYVFM...

Thom Hartmann.

As far as legacy media goes, I read the thumbnail or watch a few seconds and then turn it off because I know what they are going to say already and don't need the spit-polished pretty talking heads reading stories at me for millions of dollars a year. Nothing and nobody there is authentic. No one is real.

Also, I want to be informed about stuff I don't already know, and to experience incisive, witty, educated, raunchy yet collegial interactions.

Like here.

But I also want to somehow get the word out. We all know that "the majority of Americans" (moa) want what we want, but have been taught to hate all things "liberal". We need to have serious, and calm, conversations about things that divide us. How to accomplish this.

I'm a ramblin' fool. Probably due to my back pain, and attendant meds, and some other stuff you can get totally legally here in the great state of California.

Good night.

PS:

Where's Rosanne Rossana-Dana when we need her? Now she was authentic!

I think there’s so much of just a lazy unwritten sclerosis built into so much of

….long term political insiders generally but in this case mainstream media’s coverage. You had four years of practice and you still wanted to treat a dangerously unfit fascist as just a normal political candidate worthy of regular political coverage. A man who attempted an insurrection and who was charged with espionage of classified state secrets.

There’s no scenario where we should not have treated him like South Korea’s former president. The ONLY places where the alarm bells were being raised were lefty places online that nobody listens to anyways, and then a single NYT editorial one week out.

The story should have been “there is only one real choice” EVEN IF BIASSSSSS. This horse race bullshit May finally kill us all
