Remember slavery was outlawed in Florida by the Spanish and Andrew Motherfucker Jackson went and conquered it to get back the slaves who were running away there to live in freedom with the Seminoles. After they took control of the peninsula, the US turned in back into a slave state.

The right hates it when you delete history by removing statues. Teach the history if slavery and the Civil War in schools? Nut so much.

Zora Neale Hurston lived here around the same time that monstrosity was erected, so I think it would be fitting to replace it with a statue of Zora wearing a sassy hat, with a plaque reading “Sometimes, I feel discriminated against, but it does not make me angry. It merely astonishes me. How can any deny themselves the pleasure of my company? It's beyond me.”

“I’m not woke”. The most racist statement a person can make. An attempt to cleanse racism for Republicans.

That business about “Now we can invite our family and friends to visit” isn’t wrong. We have good friends who live in FL, and Mrs. 🦡 🍄 🐍 is campaigning to visit them once we move back to Yankland. I am dead-set against spending one penny in DeSantis’ shithole fantasyland. Maybe if they did a few more (many many more) things like this I might reconsider.

The Jr/Sr Prom two years ahead of my class had the theme "Return to Tara." That was 1963. A lot of un-reconstructed Southrons migrated to Southern OR after their War of Sedition.

I'm surprised that the monument celebrated the fact that Southern women could read. Of course, that would be white Southern women. There were laws making it illegal to teach blacks to read.

I read the name of Wayde's group as “Slave Southern Heritage.” That would have been a better representation of their views.

The Confederate Army was made up of poor white men drafted into fighting for the right of rich white people to enslave black people. The cause was not only “lost”, it was ridiculous.

That "Save Southern Heritage" have long been assholes here in Florida. Back in 2017, the "Miami New Times" reported that the group had been doxxing some 133 "anti-Confederacy activists" in Broward and Hillsborough Counties.

This national group is registered as a South Carolina 501 c 4 public welfare corporation, meaning it enjoys non-profit status. Too bad they haven't been sued to rescind that status
