Thank you for spotlighting this runoff. Another good thing to know about John: he comes from a long line of anti-racism activists. In 1964, Lt. Col Lemuel Penn was murdered by the Ku Klux Klan 20 miles outside Athens, Georgia. A local (Danielsville) jury of 12 white men, most with KKK ties, found them innocent. Under the brand new 1964 Civil Rights Act, the federal government brought them back to trial on a charge of violating Col. Penn's civil rights. Only this time, the trial was in Athens, and John Barrow's father was the judge. He put them in prison for as long as he could---ten years. This being Georgia, they were let out after five for "good behavior" but giving the KKK any jail time in Georgia was a turning point, and John's Daddy was the one who turned it.

Ras el hanout is really, really tasty spice to put on pretty much any meat. Bet it would go well on long pork.
