Outlandish executive compensation based on short-term shareholder value is bad enough, but even worse is outlandish executive compensation entirely disconnected from any value metric on any timescale - I've heard far too many times about CEOs cashing bonus checks for an order of magnitude more than I'll earn in my entirely lifetime even as the company they're heading posts jawdropping losses and stock prices lose digits like they're going out of fashion.

Indeed. And because we got those As and Bs, we <a href="http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2012\/09\/23\/business\/ceos-and-the-pay-em-or-lose-em-myth-fair-game.html\?_r=0" target="_blank">are familiar</a> with the research that says that Executive skills are in fact mostly <em>not</em> transportable between companies (institutional knowledge is important) and so the notion of a mobile executive class upon which the "must pay millions to retain" excuse is built is in fact a foundation of vapor.
