I am glad he is out and compensated and that the cops were found at least financially responsible.

But when the fuck will cops and prosecutors start getting prosecuted for knowingly sending people to jail? Is perjury not a thing if you're a cop?

I would not have survived. What an amazing man Dennis proved to be, and beyond the inhumanity, imagine what such a strong soul could have done with his freedom.

They stole his life.

Whenever I hear a story like this, I realize there are probably thousands of other Black men in similar situations who won't experience this marginally happy ending.

I am starting to hate it here. Wish I wasn't too damn old to start over in some sane country like NZ.

When this poor *innocent* man was being sentenced, where was Sam Alito to tell us that making him pay for his “crime” would only encourage him to crime again, so we should just let him go?

The fact that this same court declined to hear multiple death row cases and basically told the one guy they did take a case from "we're worry the change in the laws over time created a Catch22 situation for you, but we're not going to put in the effort to change that. so sorry, not sorry" ... makes it extra rich that they care so much about helping Trump escape justice for crimes we all watched him commit on tv.

That poor man. No amount of money could ever replace what those bastards stole from him. Justice is such a joke in this country.

A gentle reminder that the same fuckers who imprisoned an innocent man for 25 years due to hiding evidence are the same ones who constantly piss and moan about Philadelphia DA Larry Krasner being "soft on crime" because he wants to rehab first-time offenders and get rid of bail.

When I was arrested for protesting the Supremes over Hardwick v Bowers, I got lost in the system. All day and the next, people were getting pulled out of our crowded cell to go before the judge, and our numbers dwindled until eventually I was the only one left. Every few hours, someone would come in, check the various id tags they'd given me, declare I was not on their list, and go away. Sometime around 2am the second day, they finally took me to the courtroom, where the judge chewed them out for being so late, they admitted they'd lost all my paperwork, and let me go.

It was very weird to be locked up all alone, so I used the great acoustics of the empty block and sang to myself (several Alan Parsons' song were in my rotation as the lyrics were fitting), in part to maybe remind anyone outside that I was still there. But I do get a little bit what he means by music helping him survive. And I was only alone for like a dozen hours. The cell block also had high barred windows, so I knew if it was day or night. I imagine that the meal trays were a small comfort, proof they hadn't forgotten he was in there. But I can also imagine the fear of "what if the meals stop coming..."

I think the part of the story, aside from the whole thing and the torture, is that they offered him a fucking plea deal rather than admit they were wrong and show one particle of compassion or even a whisper of a guilty conscience for what they'd done.

I am SO damned sorry that the system snatched you up, locked you up, and then forgot all about you. The courts have NO excuse for such grievous, barbaric errors, FFS.

I am prepared to get locked up protesting the barbarity of American penal institutions. Sometimes it is WORTH going to jail.

OT: I have finished all of the morning chores and initiated a couple of the afternoon tasks. I am now sitting here in tears; gawd DAMMIT this hurts.

Please, beloved comrades, be CAREFUL so that you do not take a bad fall and leave yourself in agony for several days thereafter. The soft tissue injuries and bruised bones are nothing that can be dealt with beyond potent pain medications which I already have. Unfortunately all they're capable of doing is taking the edge off of the worst of it and the reality is such injuries are going to hurt like HELL, particularly if you inadvertently move the "wrong" way, for several days. Thus it is essential for you to watch your step and take every caution and care to insure YOU do not sustain any boo-boos that are THIS much of a bitch.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled SNARK programming.

Oh my gosh Skepti I'm sorry to hear that you hurt yourself! I had a really scary moment this morning getting out of the shower where I weeble wobbled around a few seconds before getting my feet set straight and I really thought I might take a bad fall. My balance is really screwy because of sciatica and neuropathy in my feet. Get better soon. 🤗 Hugs

I'll just add that if you are getting older and starting to lose balance, balance exercises can help, and yoga can help. And if you need a cane, use one!

Confederate Republicans don't govern and don't want to, so I guess she feels she has plenty of time to mess in the sandboxes of other kids who actually have jobs and are trying to be productive and get things done.

She really is an odious piglet. It's not everyone else's fault she got kicked off the Harvard IOP board for doing election denial things.
