I keep waiting for the headline "Senator Susan Collins Strangles Self While Clutching Her Pearls."

"But, dictators don’t follow laws! Will the inspectors general simply show up to work today like a bunch of George Costanzas? We shall see!"

"We shall see." This is the sentence, applicable to so much impending and ongoing disaster, that makes me unable to sleep well at night.

I don’t understand why one would fire individuals whose mission is to root out waste, fraud and abuse. So this leaves a gap in what I know is a priority for President Trump.”

How she did not get struck by lightening on the spot for telling such an egregious lie, I do not know, but by all the laws of narrative causation, she should have been.

I don't give a shit why Tiny Hands Cheeto did it, all I care about is that he broke the fucking law and when you make that a secondary or tertiary consideration to your "ORANGE MAN BAD," the country gets a little weaker and easy for the next despot to control.

Same fucking thing with the EO that unilaterally amends the Constitution on birthright citizenship. The only story there is YOU CAN'T FUCKING DO THAT, TINY HANDS CHEETO. It's not "The president claims ..." or "What would this mean to California?"

Any Democrat whose response to this is anything other than YOU CAN'T FUCKING DO THAT, TINY HANDS CHEETO is dead to me now.

I think the why is a bit important, no? Considering he is trying to boot all those in charge of investigating fraud that his buddies do regularly?

"when things that must not be permitted to happen are allowed to happen, then they stop being things that are not permitted to happen[...]

If consequences for infractions against society and law and government are not pursued with urgency, then they stop being understood as urgent matters. [...]

When a president is allowed by the land's highest court to break the law with impunity, then the law stops being legitimate and so does the court and so does the presidency. [...] and if this happens even though the Constitution says it is disqualifying, then the Constitution no longer matters, either."

Even if Trump gives the appropriate 30-day notice, he can still fire these people. At most, it's an inconvenient delay for him.

Expand full comment

No, per the statutes cited in the letter, there needs to be a "specific" and "substantive" reason for termination, in addition to giving the legally mandated notice.

So you just let him take a mulligan? That's not how any of this is supposed to work. Litigate all of it. Every fucking thing.

He has to give cause though. He can’t just say, “I don’t like his face.” If they weren’t fired for cause, they can challenge it in court.

He's had everything handed to him his whole life. Make him work for his fascism.

I used to work for the Regional Inspector at the IRS... who reported up the chain to the Inspector General of the Treasury.

Our office focused on whether IRS systems were running properly, whether taxpayer data was being properly handled and protected, and whether systemic guardrails against fraud, corruption, and abuse were working.

That TFG has a problem with any of that is ludicrous ... and so, so telling.

Hey Susan Collins, by “changing priorities” he means “rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse” will no longer be a priority.

And Lindsey, you know full fucking well that his agenda is committing fraud and abuse, so go fuck yourself with a red hot poker wrapped in barbed wire.

Hope that helps.

“ignoring sexual harassment claims (10,000 employees out of a survey of 28,000 DHS employees reported experiencing it);”

If more than a third of your employees are complaining about something, you may have a problem.

HuffPost: Talking to reporters aboard Air Force One, President Trump was asked about Friday's late-night firing of at least 12 independent inspectors general." It’s a very common thing to do" the president said, according to a White House pool report. "Some people thought that some were unfair, some were not doing their job and it’s a very standard thing to do." In an answer to a follow-up question, Trump claimed he would not be bringing in replacements loyal to his agenda. "They’re not my people. I don’t know anybody that would do that. We’ll put people in there that will be very good."

Trump fired a bunch of inspector generals, which is all over the news. A lot of people think that is inappropriate. IMHO, Trump is a fool. That help?

Further Lindsay Graham on the firing of "independent" IGs:

“But the question is, is it OK for him to put people in place that he thinks can carry out his agenda? Yeah. He won the election. What do you expect him to do? Just leave everybody in place in Washington before he got elected?” Graham said.

“This makes perfect sense to me,” he continued. “Get new people. He feels like the government hasn’t worked very well for the American people. These folks did a pretty lousy job. He wants some new eyes on Washington. That makes sense to me.” “He wants to put people in place, including inspector generals, that can implement his agenda,” Graham said. “So that’s just the way it goes when you win an election.”

JFC LIndsay, you know better. The whole purpose of an Inspector General is to be a neutral watchdog, not to pursue the new administration's, or any administration's agenda. Each one must be confirmed by the Senate. But...you knew that, right??
