Worst is yet to come. Donald "The Beast" Trump is building a wall once again. Colossal tariff wall that is the beginning of the end for the system of down. At first the beast will pull the plug out of the global economy. The worst financial crisis of human history will pull a swarm of the banks underwater and the bank run begins. Then the beast will collapse a mountain of debt shattering the backbone of the monetary system causing a systemic risk to realize. Finally the beast will cast American citizens into a system slavery under the name of Ronald Wilson Reagan, just to "honor his legacy" count the number. After the destruction a new world order will be established in the US. And the Golden Age begins from the ruins of the world wide collapse. All of the system slaves will love it. No more cash - just digital transactions. No more traditional criminal activity. No more tax evasion. No more transactions without the "all seeing eye". Outcasts will hate the world without freedom, hope and privacy. To cover up the mess and distract the public by smoke and mirrors, the beast will engage in a war with Iran. Lies and deceit, corruption and decay, dancing on the graves will continue. Until; Black hole sun, won't you come, won't you come... I want to play a game. Time has come to opt out of the empire of filth. Live or die...

So Dear Leader is going to fix the air traffic problem?

Remember Trump's "infrastructure week"? Don't hold your breath. Trump doesn't care.

Don’t worry, if the VIP turns out to be Hegseth, we’re sure they’ll fire even MORE generals for letting that <strikeout>happen</strikeout> be found out.

Ensuring that our government services don't work proves how ineffective our government services are has been the Republican way since at least Reagan. We are just unfortunate enough to be living in the end stages of that almost 50 year GOP project.

The best way to improve air traffic control is to reduce the number of flights or at least spread them out so they don't all take off and land in the same time windows. I knew this when I was a controller fifty years ago and that was why I quit.

Fuck Reagan for firing my brothers who stayed.

Your other post was about how Trump voters are willing to sacrifice. But are they willing to die because ATC is understaffed and using ancient equipment? Just curious. Maybe someone should do a poll.

Neither my husband or I are fans of flying. Just way too much stupidity in the air. We go by Amtrak (which SCROTUS is also determined to fuck up). At least on Amtrak, when some crackpot decides they want to kick out a window or emergency exit, fine, let them. We won't get sucked out in the process.

There are too many nutjobs on planes these days, but even so, the most dangerous times are during takeoff and landing. in large part due to the damn air traffic.

And Newark has always been a shitty airport.

Cannot air traffic controllers accidentally crash Air Force One? This is not a call for such in an emergency to our democracy, but Of course they can. I have a feeling they will.

I remember six years ago, a bit more, when President Trump shut down the government in a fit of pique against Nancy Pelosi. I was flying to Las Vegas for work. Just before we landed, I checked in with CNN which informed me that the FCC had just announced they could not guarantee the safety of takeoffs and landings. I went philosophical, what other choice does one have, and luckily we all landed in one piece.

However, I remember reading at the time that there were a decent number of air traffic controller recruits who were not able to continue, were almost about to graduate, maybe just started, details are fuzzy, but we had fresh recruits. Due to the shutdown, we lost them. So I think of that every time I hear about this air traffic controller shortage. Obviously, the problem goes further back, but his little hissy fit in 2019 didn't help the situation at all.

"‘Don’t fly into Newark. Avoid Newark at all costs.’”

To be fair, this has kind of been a solid part of my thinking for as long as I've been taking planes.

I flew into and out of Newark only once. What a dump, as Bette Davis would have said. I flew in January 2009 or 2010 to Washington DC, and we were made to trudge in knee high snow about 200 feet onto the tarmac to get to the plane because the airport hadn't gotten around to plowing and the plane couldn't risk getting stuck. As it was, the pilot had to back the plane out of the mess to reach the runway.

That mid-level dweeb from the British firm who drew the short straw for the face-to-face in Manhattan now has landing safely at his destination in the US as one of three possibilities.

The other two are landing safely and having a subliterate BOP agent with unlimited authority to interpret anything about you as suspicious throw you in jail, or you could die in a blazing midair collision.

Ta, Dok. I have trouble believing it was *one* copper wire. I think it was probably bad patchwork over decades of decay and delay, because Goddess forbid that shareholders should ever suffer. That said, I'm not getting on a plane until this maladministration is long gone.
