Let's put aside the paradox of how Comey could have "leaked" a "false statement." If Comey were in any actual legal jeopardy, it wouldn't be from Trump's personal attorney Marc Kasowitz threatening to "file a complaint" with the Justice Department. COME THE FUCK ON!
I'm not a lawyer, nor am I particularly SMARRT, so my opinion is probably worth less than two craps, but it appears to me that the Comey memos were simply a notation of his own recollections. In other words, the memos he released were unclassified documentation of the same testimony he was able to give in a public forum.
I can't for the life of me see how he can "leak" information that he could speak about to virtually anyone, anywhere. The real significance of the memos is in the timing, since they predate his firing and look really bad for Trump.
$5F is great at lawsplaining, although I'm not the perfect example of a layman, having spent much of my working life as a legal secretary and a legal proofreader. Just take my word for it.
