A little tangential, I think a big part of courtship vs "dating" was backlash against the secular media line that teenagers need to treat their parents like enemies, which is dangerously bad advice for young males with actual social difficulties and mental health issues. For me, that led to looking at the honest alternatives, up to and including multigenerational living and "arranged marriage" (which, scheduled rant, was mostly "dating" without the parent bashing). In further hindsight, the secular side of the false dilemma choked itself in the last 20 years, in part because "kids" not moving out is becoming a frequent necessity.
The only thing I remember about these people is some “scandal” involving masturbation many years ago, and the only reason I remember that is because I made a mightily upfisted comment on the dear departed Gawker.
The "masturbation" scandal was Josh Duggar getting caught sexually assaulting some of his sisters and at least one other girl and Jim Bob covering it up, until someone tipped off In Touch magazine.
