I think the big takeaway here is that Trump has zero coattails. If GOP candidates do well this fall, it will be despite him not because of him. This is partly because he makes no effort whatsoever on behalf of the people he endorses - and he endorses them almost entirely because they endorse him. He viciously attacks any Republican candidate who tries to distance or criticize him - more, even, than Dems, because he sees these people as a threat and a challenge to him personally.
Trump has never been a kingmaker. He grooms no heirs, he never shares the hustings or the limelight. He doesn't give a fuck what happens to the GOP or the United States once he's dead.
The GOP would have found something wrong with the Dem candidate no matter what. They no longer run on a platform, policy, positions, ideas, proposals. They run on Look! Squirrel!
