Absofuckinglutely, as my drill sergeant would have said. We shouldn't go to war based on whether or not somebody would make a profit. That is monstrous, and monstrously stupid.
What I (still) don't get is why Republicans are sticking with this crapfest. Don't they, truly, actually like and respect the military? Is white supremacy and dismantling the entire public infrastructure of the nation really so important that they'll throw even the armed forces under the bus?
I get Trump. He's a fascist, and is hewing closely to Hitler's playbook. Hitler (who loved the troops and was a veteran) hated the military leadership because he thought they might be independent and not do stupid things like invade Russia in winter. Trump wants to replace the top DOD brass with his own flacks. I get that. I get Mnuchin, Pence, the inner circle - they are also fascists.
But who the fuck are the Senators, Congress members, and career diplomats who have been concealing this shit? And why?
It may be monstrous and monstrously stupid, but it's the precise reason we fought the Vietnam War, and the two current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. I mean, unless you can point to another plausible motive.
Most of them are fat-assed bumbling career pencil-pushers who are anything but skilled at planning and executing. (Cf. War, Vietnam, the; also Operation Iraqi Freedom.) And Trump has been replacing DOD leadership with people loyal to himself for three years.
But the industries, like chemicals and oil and steel and armaments and all the others whose profits go through the roof when war comes absolutely think we should.
Actually, the Military-Industrial Complex profits from TENSION, not War.
Here's why:
1. In case of an actual war, the arms makers lose the purchase orders of the "other side." Cuts into profits.2.The arms makers have to hire more workers and build more factories to meet war's insatiable demands. That means they lose profits to unions and sub-contractors.3. When the arms-makers "super-duper" weapons don't work (e.g., the Sergeant York, the F-111, the USS Gerald R. Ford class, the B-26 Marauder 80 years ago), and start killing American kids, there's an outcry from both the families of the kids and their elected representatives (e.g., the Harry Truman Committee).
But when you make weapons that are never fired, go obsolete after 20 years, and have to be replaced, there's a lot of money in that.
It's sort of like the "Floating Fortresses" in George Orwell's "1984." They used up valuable resources, never fired a shot, and got scrapped 20 years later for a brand-new one.
I can remember when the Perry-class frigates were the latest and greatest in the US Navy. Now they're all paid-off and sold to Egypt and Poland. Even Australia has scrapped hers.

Mussolini served 2 years in the military.
they’d make me think they have no concern for our nation.
They have no concern for your nation.
TX - although Fort Hood is in the news for bad reasons.

SC also, too. Let's make SC a swing state!

It is for today's Republicans.
Cool!

I'm not sure he hates the troops but he certainly despises them
You should see the Trumpetoons over on LinkedIn.
They are a ghastly combination of stupidity and loyalty.
MONEY!!!!!!!
