ROME — Italian police

are investigating as possible arson a fire that destroyed more than a dozen Tesla electric vehicles at a dealership on the outskirts of Rome early Monday. Tesla Italy said that it is

cooperating with police, and that it had turned over surveillance video from the vehicles themselves. The cars’ internal video operates even when they are off. An Associated Press reporter at the scene counted 16 burned cars.

Gee whiz, being a late Boomer, who came of age during Watergate, I always thought that journalism was telling truth to power, regardless of the consequences, and investigating the powerful, so as to expose the truth. 50 years ago, journalists created their own access, they didn't need to be granted it. Seems journalists are nothing more than stenographers to the powerful these days, terrified of losing their precious access. This year's dinner will be boring, even if trump attends, because brown nosing isn't entertaining, but the "journalists" can vote for who has the the most outstanding piece of shit on their nose, because there is nothing outstanding about fluff pieces about anyone in the maladministration.

tramp and his cult of morons getting played by Winnie The Flu:

----

WASHINGTON — In a

private meeting at a global summit in Buenos Aires in 2018, China’s president, Xi Jinping, turned to President Trump and said it was a shame he couldn’t stay in power beyond the two-term limit set by the U.S. Constitution. Trump agreed. It was just one of several

instances in which Trump mused over the prospects of an extra-constitutional

reign in the White House. “He’s talked about it for a

really long time,” said John Bolton, Trump’s national security advisor from 2018 to

2019, recalling the meeting. “It’s on his mind, and he’d like to do it.” The possibility of Trump

running for a third term gained fresh attention this weekend after the president told NBC that he was “not

joking” about pursuing one. “There are methods,”

Trump said. “But I’m not — it is far too early to think about it.” Attorneys, scholars and

state officials disagree. The knowledge that Trump may bid to stay in power, in a direct challenge to the 22nd Amendment, already has election officials in secretaries of state offices throughout the country bracing for legal battles that could begin as soon as next year.

To be way more fair than they deserve, the American public sure helped them in this shit. a third are fully on board for the hate and fear (or, as I call it, sheer bigotry). Dress it up as economic anxiety or wanting to tell jokes or wanting to be a manly man if you will, but it comes down to sheer bigotry. Even if it hurts them.

Another third were too busy fighting amongst themselves to bother fighting that shit. Whenever you hear someone say something like "This other person is the REAL bad guy because they are not as (fill in the blank) as ME," that is our tell.

The third third gets a hall pass because poor/oppressed/suppressed.

I don't understand what security a third party app offers over just plain texting. You're literally inviting additional people into your conversation when you use a third party app.

Expand full comment
Land Shark 🇺🇦 🏳️‍⚧️'s avatar

Plain texting goes through the telcos (not pure iMessage, though), so it is subject to capture by the NSA. Signal guarantees encryption from your device to the recipients device, and YOU have to verify the recipient of the messages before sending. Meaning ... Signal messages can't be decrypted by anyone other than your intended recipient.

Expand full comment
Diane's Less Hostile Username's avatar

So your options are to MAYBE have the NSA listen or definitely have a third party listen? I still take my chances. The NSA still needs a warrant to do anything, Signal can just turn your info over without a warrant.

Expand full comment
Land Shark 🇺🇦 🏳️‍⚧️'s avatar

No. Signal doesn't work that way. They have no method to read anything in your messages. The keys to encrypting and decrypting the messages between two devices ONLY exist on the devices themselves and nowhere else. Signal's servers don't store the messages either ... not that they could do anything with them.

So, when you accept and verify the other person, you pass the only set of keys that can decrypt the messages between those two. No one else has them. And if someone else tries to "spoof" a message, Signal tells you that is occurring, ie. "this message seems to be from Land Shark, but the keys don't match."

Lastly, as all of the Signal code is available to view by anyone, it is hard to break it. When the security professionals I know use it, I tend to pay attention.
