Ivanka Trump Wants To Fight Climate Change, May Be Chinese Spy

Here's an item for the ol' "We'll believe it when we see it" file: Ivanka Trump reportedly would just love to use her position as First Daughter to advocate for action on global warming. Yeah, we sprayed coffee all over our Sierra Club calendar when we read it, too. But according to Politico, when Ivanka attended this year's “Weekend with Charlie Rose” in Aspen, a gathering for people who haven't quite made the list for Davos or the Bilderbergs yet, a "source close to her" told Politico that Ivanka would like nothing better than to make climate change "one of her signature issues," even though Daddy has Tweeted that climate change is nothing but a Chinese plot to undermine American productivity, and just days ago his chief-of-staff-in-waiting, Reince Priebus, reassured reporters that Trump is convinced that climate science is "a bunch of bunk.” Not to mention how his transition team is crowded with climate deniers. 

But according to Politico, the source who is really close to Ivanka says she's hoping to use her bully presidential offspring pulpit to draw attention to the fight against global warming. Again, check back in a few months and see if she decides it would be more fun to sell jewelry and shoes, but Nice Time If True.

Politico reminds us that nobody's closer to the PEOTUS than the daughter whose name he can remember, and that she did manage to convince him to include a ( wholly inadequate but slightly better than nothing) platform plank on working moms and child care in his campaign, so if anyone can possibly nudge Trump in a less planet-destroying direction, it's likely Ivanka. Again with the unnamed sources:

“The issues she’s talking about are ones she’s always talked about,” said a source close to Ivanka. “These are totally consistent with what she’s developed with her brand. She is playing a critical role in being able to have issues that moderate and liberal women care about — and creating a bridge to the other side.”

It's a pretty slim bit of reporting to go on, but certainly better than finding out Ivanka's favorite hobbies include burning down vast stands of old-growth forest and "Rolling Coal" in a giant truck. Ivanka Trump, climate advocate? We wouldn't bet any seafront property in Kansas on it just yet, but we'd be perfectly delighted to be proved wrong.

We guess we'll know for sure when Trump starts calling Ivanka "hotter than the average global temperatures, which have been rising at an alarming rate."
