As a former nanny, I couldn't agree more. You give them clear expectations, factual explanations/reasons for things, and endless repetition, practice, and preparation before going into a potentially tricky situation. "Tim, we're going into the glass figurine store now. Hold my hand, ask me if you want to touch anything, and we use our inside voices." "You did really great at remembering to ask before touching."
