If only the GQP had someone with 1% of integrity that Jack Smith has.

What a buch of Jack holes.

BRING ME THE HEAD OF MERRICK FUCKING GARLAND!

So what happens now?

Jack Smith reminds me of John Wick, and Jim Jordan looked like he knows he just killed Jack Smith’s dog.

I haven't had time to read it but have seen a few clips. The good thing about having the transcript will be being able to tell which idiot was asking which dumb questions.

Thank You Marcie for this Historic Reporting of this Hearing !!!

Still rereading this post and book marked it.

Nobody believes me when I tell them that, when Smith was appointed, the people angry at Garland *opposed* it, because they thought Garland was passing the buck and should have continued the case with DoJ resources.

There was some discussion downthread about whether the Trump Campaign paid for transportation to the January 6th insurrection that Ginni Thomas did not

Because she paid for some too

Hopefully more verified reporting will follow, because not everyone has time to read the transcript of Jack Smith's whole deposition, but -- here you go

The comments which I shouldn't have read are a MAGAt cesspool.

Obviously Trump led and directed an insurrection against the Government of the United States. This means he is disqualified from holding the office of the President. Period .

You know what's going to happen if Americans come to their senses and elect a triple-threat Democratic gov't? They'll say, "let's unite the country and move forward, besides it would be so cruel to put this poor old sod through trials and perish, prison. Republicans would never elect criminals like this to high office ever again, now would they?" I say pedal to the metal and prosecute, stat!

Republicans have learned their lesson. We need to reach across the aisle and find consensus and observe norms.

Governance. How does it work?

"M"'s avatar

No enforcement against rich powerful White people, no matter how much they cheated to get that power

Law for the rest of us

Found this (Wonkette Comments actually!)

Wilhoit's Law:

Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.

That's Ohio composer Frank Wilhoit, not the other guy.

FWIW, if I were elected president in 2028, my very first act would be to fix the Supreme Court. I’m not a lawyer, I don’t know the best way to do that. but I do know that the Supreme 6 would rule against ANY and ALL cases that hold TFG and the Rethuglicans responsible; they would also rule against all efforts for campaign finance reform, universal health care, and especially, to limit their power to rewrite the constitution and legal precedent. Rethugs will challenge every single effort, and it’s useless to try to govern and have those assholes overturn it.

Jurisdiction stripping. Issue an executive order limiting SCOTUS to Indian treaties, disputes between states, and individuals from one state with another state. And send the Justices out to ride the Circuit Court again. By horse and carriage, as was the original intent of the founders. And strip the SCOTUS of its historical library. I hear that there are obscene things in that library. And no more clerks for the justices. It was not the original intent for justices to have clerks to write opinions for them and to sexually harass. And take away their computers. It was the original intent of the founders that all opinions be written on vellum parchment in ink with quill pens.

I say this every time this comes up

There was a WHOLE PLAN DRAFTED TO EXPAND THE COURT IN 2020

right down to what to do about the Hyde Amendment --

and White Democrats are going to have to caucus amongst themselves to figure out why it was studied and studied and studied ... but never implemented

Just like the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, which passed the House not once but twice, and would have fixed a lot of the rest of the mess the Court expansion did not

"it was ass-scorching damning to Trump [sic]. It quickly became quite clear why Jim Jordan did not want Smith’s testimony public"

* I expected nothing less than an asshair scorching testimony from Mr Smith. He had the cards and he played them. I believe he'll play them again in Jan, 2029 when he reopens the cases against the Fulvous Fuckwad. (Recall that he requested the cases to be closed but without prejudice so he can reopen them when the Cantaloupe Codpiece is out of office... assuming he's still alive and "competent" to take part in his defense.)

* It also comes as no surprise that Rep Jordan is trying to bury the recorded testimony. He, Comer, and Jason Smith have been running interference and burying ***anything*** that would show the Shocking Orange ShitForBrains and his actions as anything less than stellar.

* Jordan's timing on releasing the video is a variation on the old, tried, and usually successful "Friday Night News Dump." (Given the at max 24 hour news cycle this strategy is no longer as effective as it was in the good ol' days... thankfully.)

-----

"it did not go the way Jordan had hoped"

I might be mistaken but very little of Jordan's attempted coverups of the asshattery performed by the Corrupt Coral Coward over the last several years didn't go over as he hoped it would; there have always been at least one untamed reporter who spelled out exactly what Jordan was trying to do.

It's a shame Garland didn't move faster, but really in 2021 or 2022 who could have predicted Eileen Cannon, the SCOTUS immunity ruling, and the possibility that Americans would actually re-elect this guy after everything. The person who deserves all the blame for Trump 2 is Mitch McConnell. He shut down the second impeachment based on a totally bogus interpretation of the Constitution. And he knew it was bogus.
