Jason Reitman Knows Who The Real Fans Of 'Ghostbusters' Are -- Whiny Misogynists
No one needs another Ghostbusters-related sideplot this election.
As you may recall, a lot of bad shit happened in the year 2016.
One of those bad things (though nowhere close to the worst) was the extreme outrage from whiny misogynists over LADY GHOSTBUSTERS. Which, by the way, was a very good movie that I enjoyed very much. For over a year leading up to the premiere, meninists across the internet screamed and wailed and cried over the horror of a bunch of women starring in a not-quite-remake of a film that starred a bunch of dudes. Feminism has gone too far! There isn't even any ghost sex in this film! Everyone knows vaginas can't bust ghosts! they cried. They issued reviews of the film without having even seen it. In short, they lost their ever-loving minds.
And because this is a thing we definitely all feel like dealing with again, Jason Reitman, son of original director Ivan Reitman, went on Bill Burr's podcast this week to talk about how he is doing another reboot ... and this time, it will be a reboot for "the fans."
Oh.

"I'm not making the 'Juno' of 'Ghostbusters' movies," said the director, while being interviewed on a recent episode of the Bill Burr Podcast .[...]
"This is going to be a love letter to 'Ghostbusters,' said Reitman. "I love this franchise. I grew up watching it. I consider myself the first 'Ghostbusters' fan. I was like seven years old when that movie came out and I love it. I want to make a movie for my fellow 'Ghostbusters' fans."
He continued by discussing the amount of work that went into creating the short teaser that was released earlier this year. He said, "We went back to the work files for the sound of the proton pack. And we went back to the stems ofElmer Berstein'sscore. Just for where it says, in the teaser, 'Sumer 2020,' we went back and found the original physical vinyl letters they used to create the 'Ghostbusters' poster in 1984. Rescanned them and then our titles guys reprinted them. We filmed the titles. Not like in a computer. We shot physical titles with a light and smoke effect because that's how they would have done it back in the day."
"We are, in every way, trying to go back to the original technique and hand the movie back to the fans," the director concluded.
First of all ... what the hell would the "Juno" of "Ghostbusters" even be? A teenager getting impregnated by the ghost of Jeff Buckley?
Second, a lot of people were "fans" of the original Ghostbusters movies, not just weird internet misogynists. I was a fan of the original Ghostbusters. Almost everyone who grew up in the '70s, '80s and '90s was a fan of the original Ghostbusters. It was hard not to be! It was on basic cable like five times a week along with Just One Of The Guys and Earth Girls Are Easy, on a constant loop. Plus there was a cartoon, an unfortunate-tasting beverage, and a cereal. It was a very, very big thing, and it was not "just for boys."
By suggesting that this reboot would be for "the fans" -- as opposed to the other one, which was apparently for people who hated the original and just wanted to hurt the feelings of adult men who feel they have nothing left in this world other than dominion over the "Ghostbusters" franchise -- Reitman is feeding a beast that does not need to be fed. The issue "the fans" had with Lady Ghostbusters was not that they didn't use the original sound files for the proton packs, it was that there were not enough penises in the movie. Assuming that the people who were mad about Lady Ghostbusters are the "real fans" is some real bullshit.
They haven't announced any of the cast yet, and the odds are not strong that they're going to get four guys who are as funny as Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, Melissa McCarthy, and Kate McKinnon, and who are simultaneously willing to burn bridges with all of them, and ostensibly anyone in their respective circles, and "the fans" who love them and think they are awesome.

That's like Faye Dunaway doing Mommie Dearest levels of bridge-burning. You don't come back from that.
Following the "Excuse me, what?"'s heard all over the internet yesterday in response to his plans, Reitman has since said he did not mean to demean Lady Ghostbusters, and that he was actually totally fine with Lady Ghostbusters.
Wo, that came out wrong! I have nothing but admiration for Paul and Leslie and Kate and Melissa and Kristen and the… https: //t.co/Xv9cqfTovr

Bravery seems like an odd word choice here, no? Pretty sure the "brave" part was having to put up with shit from the people Reitman is ostensibly making his movie for, not the making of the movie.
This would be all well and good were it not completely obvious that the reason he decided to make this movie was in response to the "fans" who were mad about Lady Ghostbusters. He saw there was a market for something and decided to fill a void. Unfortunately, it is a void filled with screeching manbabies. By saying that his movie would be "for the fans" implies that the other version was not, and doing it so soon after that movie came out? Just plain rude.

Ah. Well. Guess I can’t say I’m too surprised. Must have him mixed up with someone else.
I see you owned even a 7 sided die.
