Josiah Erasmus Buford "Jeb" Bush is just stone cold goin' nuts, doing that thing that all Republicans do when they've decided that they're not going to run for office anytime soon, which is to admit that the Republican party is completely insane. Last week he told Charlie Rose that maybe Republicans should accept some token tax increases to go along with the dismantling of Social Security and Medicare, and also maybe they shouldn't hate on immigrants so much. (Jeb is famously the father of George H.W. Bush's little brown grandchildren .) It seems that perhaps some of Jeb's friends in the Republican Party were feeling a bit miffed by this hateful diatribe, so he's trying to walk things back a bit, but is just making things worse by saying you need to figure out the context of statements before you get into a snit about them. Context? What the hell kind of politics does Jeb think he's involved in?
In USA America politics, Jeb, you just wait for someone to say a sentence that sounds damaging in isolation and then your put it on continuous loop on every single TV station everywhere. Thus with Obama's " the private sector is doing fine " "gaffe" (it was in the middle of a longer explanation that private sector hiring is up while public sector hiring is down) or Mitt Romney's " I'm not concerned about the very poor " line (it was part of a longer explanation about how the very poor have a social safety net, which he actually promised to fix if needed). Jeb's statements about how terrible the Republicans are had a larger context, which is that the Democrats are also terrible, everybody is terrible, let's burn the house down and start over.
For extra irony, Jeb unleashed his context bomb on Twitter, the perfect medium for snippets of text to become completely detached from any even vaguely explanatory context. Here, retweet this and feel free to reframe it in new and exciting ways to imply that Jeb is a communist Tea Party-promoting meth dealer.
Am reminded today why I rarely read headlines. #ContextIsImportant

Now THAT is a trend I can believe in.
Damn, that tightened up.
