Either that or... was reminded that progressives neither own nor dominate the Democratic party, and that our role is - and always has been - to urge the party to the left, not drive it there willy-nilly above shrieking demands to "bend the knee."
No, that's exactly what it was, the kind of public, self-humiliation ritual last seen during China's Cultural Counter Revolution under Mao designed to crush the 'deviaitonist tendency' from the Party. I kind of feel sorry for Bernie, who's pretty much a victim of his own conflict-adverse personality (probably resulting from the untreated childhood trauma of living in a family that wasn't abusive but more dysfuctional than he's ever let on).
As for this election, i suspect most "leftists" will fall into line and vote for Biden as is demanded of us, without any enthusiasm or hope, knowing full well that if he loses, we'll be blamed, and if he wins, we'll be ignored. It's only been the DNC's M.O. since 1968. When not deliberately sabotaging a nominee they didn't want (see McGovern, 1972; or at the state level, Barbara Buono in NJ in 2013).
Win, lose or draw, i also suspect this is the last straw for most "leftists', who will cut their ties to the DP and not look back (except in contempt). Which is, ironically, just what the GOP and the DNC want, albeit for different reasons.
