The most common question people ask me over the years since becoming an attorney..."Can you sue someone for ___________? My answer, "Yes, anyone can sue anyone for anything." If you have the $150 filing fee ($285 with a jury), you can file a lawsuit claiming literally anything against anyone. Then, you must serve them, file the affidavit of service, and the court will issue a scheduling order. The merits of the suit aren't even considered until an answer is filed by the other side, and they file a motion to dismiss, usually with their answer. Depending on the issues, and if the plaintiff actually articulated a real cause of action, the court may allow some time for discovery, giving the plaintiff the benefit of the doubt. This is often 6 months or more. This gives wingnuts time to pretend they are making headway. Until their case is dismissed, they are WINNING! and going MAGA to Mueller and Obama and Hillary. It's not whether you win or lose, it's whether you can convince people to believe the crazy wingnut shit you say.
