I watched and wept, I loved how the eulogies were brief and sometimes funny. I was talking with a neighbor afterwards and said the former Presidents looked kinda old, and my god that must mean I'm kinda old too!
Ta, Rebecca. While I may not believe in the G-d of my ancestors, I do believe Jimmy Carter was a saint (Rosalynn, too). If I ever need a miracle, I'll pray to his spirit to intervene.
Carter was a harmonica vertuoso. I saw him perform "Georgia On My Mind" with Willie Nelson and his band one beautiful evening in ATL.
Carter was also a published poet. I was fortunate enough to acquire a copy of his poems from a friend in Vermont. I, as a bit of a doggerelist myself, recommend his work enthusiastically.
The funeral for America and Los Angeles in flames sure are unsubtle metaphors for the hell we're gonna endure from $hitler and his Republinazi death cult in the coming years.
I've been listening to a lot of Neil Young this week; it really helps.
I was noticing that the former First Ladies were on the left of their husbands. That would put Michelle next to PAB and that was a nope. Don't blame her.
I met Gore once when he responded to the site of a tornado that killed some 30 people.
I had missed his news conference, but he wandered outside and talked to me for about 20 minutes, no SS in sight. (Although I'm sure they had their eyes on me).
He talked about being a military journalist in Vietnam.
That was--by a Georgia mile--the most genuine, moving State funeral I've seen. Coulda just as easily been a remembrance for a beloved neighbor in town.
Although I can't shake this sinking dread that it doubled as the requiem for the republic.

May his memory always be a blessing.
Does anyone have any idea what was said to Trump by any of the former presidents?
8 hours ago Ziggy asked that we not talk about The Idiot in this thread (and I don't mean the Dostoevsky book)
I can't imagine that Request from A Mod has expired
could there be a more perfect song for this event than Imagine? I think not...
When I saw it was the Navy Glee Club doing all the stanzas I just cried unreservedly 😭😭😭

You know most U.S. POTUSes are descended from either English or French royalty, including the Bamz
But not including 🍊
... who 8h ago I am just discovering Ziggy asked we not pollute the thread by mentioning (even though Z put it more tactfully than I just did)
Oh man! Godspeed, Mister President.
Thank you for the live stream link. 70s was an awesome time to be a teenager and part of it was Carter.
I'm jelly

I hope rest and peace for the Carter Family. They must be exhausted.
His grandson is a rock.
He speaks like he misses Pop pop deeply

“We know where the music’s playing.
Let’s go out and feel the night…..”
Love Neil Young.
As a Canadian, he will be one of us soon.
I was thinking of "L.A." earlier today.
Beautiful service.
Men of character appreciate the good qualities of others.
Men without character care about none but themselves.
R.I.P. Jimmy Carter.

Barack took one for the team?
He would
Al Gore sighting!

I was in a room with Bill Clinton once. Two of his SS goons zeroed in on me and I was quite unsubtly flanked for the duration of the event.
I had the opportunity to meet Bill, but it required a three-hour one-way drive to Atlanta.
On a Friday.
And was optional.
So I noped the fuck out.
I'd met Carter prior to that time, and I figure you meet one president, you've met them all, right?
I suspect he's a really interesting guy in person.
Towering over Mikey Pence in every way.

Yes I agree with both your points, was interested to learn Carter planned every bit of his funeral himself. He had great taste!
I half expected "Georgia on My Mind" to be included, but no matter.
I feel as you do.
Extremely well said. And half the reason we're crying, I think.
It certainly doubled as a requiem for my idealism.
Archaeologists have not yet uncovered the grave of my idealism.
