As a Houston resident, thank you for letting me know about Base Power. I will be looking into that. Thank you. Increasingly, homeowners opt to have generators. This is why a great many gas stations are out of fuel at the moment.
Hurricanes are nothing new here. It wasn't even that bad. The governor and lt governor are well aware about how it all works. They just chose not to contact President Biden. It's simply that. They hate Houston and the other few large cities in Texas because these cities vote Blue. They did it to "own the libs".
It never occurs to them that the bulk of the economic engine of Texas is in 3 cities. If the cities don't have power, no money is being made. Pissing off the moneymakers isn't going to work out well.
We can't fix stupid but we can eject it. Vote Blue in November, Texas.
Texas is secretly purple trending towards Blue. Vote and voter suppression keep it red. I hear rumors that Texas would have gone for Biden in 2020 had it not been for Ken Paxton invalidating a fuckton of votes.
I'm going to add another module or two to my home battery. It usually fully charges in a winter morning and can then run the house over a winter night, but I'd feel happier with a little more storage
I listened to that pod on Base. It all sounds good but I wonder what their emergency power service looks like if a disaster strikes while Base is offloading power to the grid (say, if a hurricane hit during afternoon peak hours). Would they hit a perfect storm of failures and be unable to keep the lights on for long for most of their customers?
Also I noticed one of the spokesmen was named Dell. Any relation to Michael, who I wouldn't trust as far as I could throw Round Rock, Texas?
Whether it's PAB demanding "he has to ask me" from Newsom during our wildfires, or Dan Patrick choosing to let Texans suffer while he dodged asking for help, it's always repubs turning what should be a simple matter into an opportunity to act like an asshole.
I’m sure the voters in Texas will punish Patrick for playing partisan politics with relief aid and reward Joe Brandon for getting them aid despite the best efforts of the state government.
Part A.) Maybe it was hard to find Patrick because he was checking out this cool spot in Cancun that Ted Cruz recommended. Seems to be the thing to do in Texas during disasters.
Part B.) Any bets on how long it will be before Abbott slaps a huge tax on Base Power and anyone who tries to imitate their business model, or outlaws them completely? After all, if energy companies aren't ruthlessly gouging their customers, how will lobbyists be able to afford the perks that Governors "deserve"?
This company called FirstEnergy spread a whole lot of samoleons (60 million, to be exact) around the Ohio legislature to get a bill passed that added a small fee to every Ohio electric customer's bill for maintenance and upkeep of old powerplants owned by the company that didn't provide a single spark of electricity to any Ohioan.
And then, the FBI swooped in.
To date:
The former Speaker of the state House of Representatives, in his mid-seventies, got 20 years in federal slam.
The top Republican lobbyist in the state blew his brains out before getting his indictment.
The former head of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) waited until he got his indictment before blowing his brains out.
Two FirstEnergy Execs, ready to go on trial for bribery, etc., have called Governor Mike Dewine and Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted as defense witnesses.
Basic story: MAGA republican assholes fuck things up, then blame the shit storm on Joe. Or Obama or Clinton (either one). Am I about number 23 on this thread to.point this out?
This reminds me of a blurb I read in my Morning Brew newsletter that talked about Powell not quite sure that he would NOT lower interest rates, he was still thinking about it. It mentioned that Republicans did NOT want that before the election.
"Sherrod Brown, who chairs the Senate Banking committee urged him to consider how the high interest rates are pushing up housing costs. Kevin Cramer (R) said a rate cut before the election would be a bad perception."
Yes it would be. For the GQP that wants to keep hammering home inflation and Biden OOOLLLDD!
Here's something I was just looking into, Drumpf's current polling in TX is under 45%. Also, his numbers in Florida are just a little over 46%, which is 1% below national averages. Wouldn't it be funny if he finally "won" the popular vote, but lost 70 electoral votes because a miniscule number of his voters stayed home?
Thought of adding, the only reason it looks like there's a chance of that happening is if people who did vote for Biden refusing to do so again to punish him for, apparently, not being Michelle Obama.
He could have just pinned the documents to some refugee's sleeve and told them to find the first person when they got off the plane and ask them two questions:

Why should Pres Biden have to contact either Abbott or Patrick? Shouldn't they have been on the phone BEFORE Beryl struck to get aid?
Ta, Dok. Battery storage for the win!

I'd just say 'Texans are too proud to take hand-outs'. And leave it at that.

Yes, but let's focus on Biden's debate performance for the 36000th straight hour-CNN/NYT/MSNBC/et al

Those wascally energy lobbyists.
Basic story: MAGA republican assholes fuck things up, then blame the shit storm on Joe. Or Obama or Clinton (either one). Am I about number 23 on this thread to.point this out?
I think you mean Joe *and* Obama *and* Clinton ( both ).

They would push back WORLD PEACE to win an election.
Ask the Iranian hostages about that.
Also the South Vietnamese.
Democrats have discovered a cure to ALL cancers.
Republicans: Biden is OLD!
MSM: Biden wants to interfere with your health.
Trump: I found the cure. Had an uncle, very smart guy. MIT sharks, windmills, blah blah blah.
Base sounds like the Ooma of electricity. Hope it works as well as advertised.
Are we sure that Andrew Mahaleris isn't Grima Wormtongue? Or is Grima already possessing Steven Cheung?

Winning the popular vote would be a true triumph of fascie propaganda. And a tragedy of Biblical promotion.
Thought of adding, the only reason it looks like there's a chance of that happening is if people who did vote for Biden refusing to do so again to punish him for, apparently, not being Michelle Obama.
So that's the reason were mad at him. I thought it was his age. NYT is idiots, is all I've got to say.
But, really, aren't we all guilty of that? I'm not even Sasha Obama.
“[…] The president and his administration know exactly how to get in contact with the governor and have on numerous occasions in the past.”
Why would the president have to contact him? Wouldn’t you think the person in need would call?
This is like complaining that the power company didn’t call to check on me after a storm.
It plays so much better in his head than, "I'm an incompetent asshole, and everyone in America now knows it. There will be no more sex."
Why just recently they called to tell us to knock that shit off on the border.
He could have just pinned the documents to some refugee's sleeve and told them to find the first person when they got off the plane and ask them two questions:
1. Where am I?
2. Could you see that this gets to Joe Biden?
you'd THINK!
Biden got out in front of this one.
Outplayed again by Grandpa - ya losers.
