Ever try to make a claim for damaged goods delivered by UPS. Just happened to me earlier this month. Go online with UPS, click file a claim, fill everything out and Whoops Just disappeared. Do it again. Seems to go through. Check next day: no Claim. Contact seller with photos of what was delivered, they say no, we didn't do that. Back online with UPS, No Claim on record. Try to talk to real person....about 20 minutes, they'll look into it and back to me. So far. Nothing. I wish there was a local store I could buy from. <sigh>
Even websites make it hard. My husband, who is pretty tech savvy, had to schedule a call with Medicare to enroll because the security measures to set up an online account were so Draconian that there was no going back if you made a mistake (he could upload documents). I had to reset my password at another government website, which had no message to explain that my account was locked, and, even though the website was accessible from any browser, it required users to use Chrome or Edge to log in. Again, no notice given to the users of other browsers.
"doom loops" - I was in one with the post office *this* week, and I haven't resolved it yet. There wasn't even an option to speak to a representative, and the choices offered did not address my issue. I used the website to email, which got me a call back - from the wrong department, which gave me a different number I still have to call to talk to somebody who maybe will be able to help. I'm blaming Mercury retrograde, cause its been a week full of such fuckery.
Just the threat of eliminating overdraft fees caused a bank to nearly triple my minimum payment on their credit card in one month. They're trying, and I'm sure it could catch some people if paydays and pay-by dates cross paths wrong, but aren't they just making people pay down their balances faster?
Just a little focus group request Re: a new Trump nickname.

Due to all the slack the courts cut Sir; Sustained deference to Sir by the spineless GOP; Press support; and of course the fact that all MAGA donations end up paying for Sir's legal fees, Trump Force One maintenance costs, and multiple, daily DeLux Buckets with X Tra Hot Honey™ Coating Sauce.
I know Conan the Barbarian said the best thing in life was to crush his enemies, see them driven before him, and hear the lamentations of the women, but I got some street tacos and beer and I'm starting to think that Conan only liked crushing his enemies, etc., etc. because he didn't have street tacos and beer.
A lot of violence could have been prevented by tacos and beer, there's a reason the ancient Romans had bread and circuses: Fed & happy people rarely riot.
People want lots of things, but what we need is much more likely to lead to riots if we're deprived. And what we need is: Air, water, food, shelter, (and the expectation that those won't suddenly disappear), security, and entertainment (we're very much like other intelligent animals in that sense, sensory deprivation drives us insane).
I’ve always been pretty good about staying on top of monthly fees and canceling things when I no longer wanted them, as well as checking my cc charges every month ( 4 different cards)to make sure something hadn’t snuck past me. Usually something my wife signed up for and didn’t realize was recurring. The one time we I missed something was when my wife was selling stuff on eBay, and had payments go into her PayPal account which was always enough to cover the 20 a month she was paying via PayPal for some service she thought she only paid to use one time.
Since it didn’t show up as a deducting from our checking account or credit cards it was nearly two years before I noticed when logging onto her PayPal to transfer some money for her. She cancelled it, but I was still the bad guy for observing we’d paid over 200 dollars for a service she never used.
Justice Gosuch thinks Americans face too many laws which seems plausible until you have to call Customer Service and spend 40 minutes on hold. The you think "there ought to be a law." Bad behavior by companies is why there are so many laws.
Good. This has been a problem for fucking DECADES. I'd love to see Stamps.com and Sirius XM burn in hell for using every one of these shitty methods to avoid cancellation. My daughter got her bank account fucked up by some shitty gym. This needs to stop happening. So sick of having every single penny I manage to capture sucked out of me for bullshit, to be honest.
For people who don't know, online at least, you can use a service like privacy.com to generate unique cc numbers for things such as free trials, etc. When you decide to cancel a service or subscription, you can avoid the bullshit by simply turning off the temporary, single-use credit card you generated. Yes, it's still extra steps, which is completely fucking asinine, but it's extra steps that don't involve being ignored and patronized while also, too, ending up having more money they're not entitled to being sucked out of you.
I don't have the fear reaction, but I too avoid stuff like discounts, special offers, loyalty cards, and gifts from companies. They want my money, and that's fair, but I only want honest dealings. None of this trickery.
Just had this happen this week, as I received a notice from my cash-back card that I had amassed a pretty substantial cash back pile, but I couldn't get it through the email or their website; I had to call the number on the back of the card, and then go through 9 - count 'em, 9 - options lists to get the person who could actually help me. And then it's taking 5-7 business days to put the money in my bank, as if they have to physically walk over to the bank and hand over a sack of coins, wait for it to be counted, and then mail me the receipt.

"Fuck you" end-stage ubercrapitalism at work.

FED EX. That's it. That's my comment.

Any chance of this passing? No doubt corporations will require their employees to object in "public comments."
Gonna cut back to basic cable to keep me from flopping on the couch instead of writing.
That should only take me a day.
And please, stop them from asking for faxes! It is not 1980.

Thank you, Dok. This needs to be shared. It's good stuff for the people.
Keep up the good work.
This is all excellent! It's like we have competent people looking out for the interest of regular Americans or something.

I am literally terrified of free trials. As tempting as they can be I’ve been very good at avoiding them.
Me also.

And they want your contact info to sell to similar companies.
