Dems: "Sure, we can look at that if you vote for the commission in the first place. Oh, by the way, who are your witnesses?"

"HAhahahaha!"

Oh… that's completely different.

Never mind.

Except that, while all this BS discussion is occurring, time's a'wastin'. If they don't get it done by the Aug recess, it's dead, because after Labor Dsy, they'll be on the budget bills. Then, next year is an election year.

Manchin revels in his perceived power and position. Glory days for him.

One simple tweak that might help is require 41 votes to STOP legislation. Make the opposition do the work of getting the butts in the seats.

The visual I am getting on the ass-passing of torches makes me wish I had a less vivid imagination.

But, true true.

Will he, won’t he, “Do Something!” ? Tune in next time to the Manchin Hour (Theramin sounds, harpsichord, piano lid slams).

Joe Manchin pisses me off, but oh well. He’s from West Virginia and in his last race he didn’t break 50% with his win. This shows another character attribute... he’s saavy. Even when he was a governor, he knows politics. He’ll NEVER switch parties, and I think in the end, we’ll accomplish quite a bit on voting rights and infrastructure. Because of Manchin, not in spite of him. He’s performed the public show for the slackjawed yokels back home. Now he can go behind the scenes and start compromising.

Yeah.Best account yet of Friedman's meddling in Chile.Check out "Democracy in Chains", by Nancy MacLean, which is a bio of James M Buchanan, also a Nobel economist, and contemporary of Friedman, and who also advised Pinochet. He was a real racist bastard. His hypothesis is called "Public Choice" doctrine:

Public Choice Theory is a body of theory developed by James Buchanan and Gordon Tullock to try to explain how public decisions are made.
