There is no money in crossing Trump if you are a republican senator. Even if you live in a swing state, if you go against Trump you are certain to loose the roughly 80 percent of republicans who mindlessly support him. Exactly zero democrats will vote for whether you do the right thing or not, so all that is left is a handful of independents and a smattering of "honorable" republicans which when totaled up gets you an adjunct professorship at the university of Maine.
So? Do you honestly think Smooth John Roberts would ever do anything to hurt his masters? Do you think anybody presently in the GOP would choose country over party when it counts? Hell, Susan Collins is as close to a Principled Republican as there is any more, and she only play-acts at having a conscience. The rest don't even bother.
