My answer to Meghan is’ “Okay- give us 40 years of acting as Progressive Nation and then we can talk, because since St. Ronny we have had a regressive economic policy totally slanted to the 1%. If that doesn’t convince the country to stay our course, then you will win again.”

Does anyone know who Meghan McCain’s father was?

If you don’t, wait a few and I’m sure she’ll tell you.

Ta, Dok. Good for Jimmy McCain. That's probably what John would have looked like if not for the years of torture in a POW camp.

I guess at least Meghan won't be canceling out the needed vote of an Arizona Democrat. Good for her.

(Not really. She's as useless as ever.)

To say nothing of the fact that PAB was a multiple draft dodger due to imaginary "bone spurs," while John McCain spent years as a POW being tortured so badly that his body never recovered, and refused to be released without his brothers-in-arms. I'm not excusing his use of Arlington footage, but at least McCain had the cred.

"When Donald Trump, running for president in 2015, dismissed the late Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona) as “not a war hero” because he got captured and that was nothing to be proud of"

As has been regularly pointed out, the Fulvous Flatulence is speaking from experience... not. Commander Bonespurs got daddy Fred to buy him a draft exemption (like daddy bought him a business degree from Wharton) so there was no chance that he could possibly be a loser and sucker by being a POW, KIA, or MIA. I'm sure that the Amber Ardipithecus ramidus proudly considers himself a hero for draft dodging. (Those drafted were predominantly POCs; White kids, especially those with a silver spoon under their nose... sorry... in their privileged little mouths had myriad ways of avoiding the draft.)

"It’s about these people who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the name of their country.”

Lt McCain is sadly mistaken. When it comes to the Dull Orange Depends Wearing Dullard *everything* is about him; either the spotlight is on him naturally or he does whatever's necessary to get the attention he craves, like an infant craves their mother's teat.

"even if Trump had the approval of two families whose loved ones are buried there"

I asked this question yesterday: did the Gold Star families that invited the Mango Malignancy ask the other families if they might have a problem with, or be offended by, the presence of the man who can be directly linked to their loved ones' deaths with his beautiful and perfect deal with a terrorist organization that wasn't the recognized Afghan government -- while Pres Ghani's admin was cut out from the negotiating table [sorry for the run-on sentence]? These fine folk are obviously pro-Democracy so wouldn't it have taken the yea votes of seven families in order to invite the Goldenrod Grotesqueness so he could violate ANC rules? Either way, the families lacked any rights to give permission for video and still pics, and should the military seek sanctions on the MAGA oberster Fuhrer and his campaign so should the families that invited him and "allowed" him to ignore rules, of which the campaign had been previously informed, suffer some consequence. beyond the grief they feel for the lose of a child and sibling.

Not a “bone spur” but a brain spur . NOT allowed to tell the truth .

The institutional hatred is so structured into Republican thought that, like racism, it may never be scrubbed away.

Meanwhile, Meagan McCain is still on Team MAGA because she "doesn't trust" Tim Walz. About what? Who knows? Probably something to do with the corporate tax rate, or taxes on unrealized gains! The racism and sexism and rape and criming are all fine, but if the democrats win, they're going to tax us into a COMMUNIST HELLHOLE like...like...like, Denmark, or Sweden, or something! GOTTA VOTE TRUMP!

I'm glad Meagan McCain is sticking with the "conservatives." I don't want to claim her. She can waste her vote all she wants; she's trash and her husband is even worse.

We may have disagreed with Sen. McCain's positions, and the gods know how bad some of them were, but for the most part I think we at least respected him for being honestly conservative rather than a raving lunatic.

Yeah, along with the thumbs down to save the ACA, I also give him props for shutting down the woman who referred to Obama an "Arab," and therefore someone to be afraid of, during the 2008 campaign, to boos from the crowd: https://youtu.be/jrnRU3ocIH4?si=PgF4xIeCBowbySDk

He held some truly awful positions, but at least he wasn't a complete shithead like the current crop. I also don't know why anyone cares what Meghan McCain thinks at this point (or ever, really).

Actually, McCain WAS regarded as somewhat of a lunatic by the left at the time (before the famous thumb's down grandstanding). But, to be fair, at that time we had no idea what actual "raving lunatic politician" looked like.

meaning no disrespect, but is it typical to be a 1st Lieutenant after 17 years of service? i have no idea.

Expand full comment

Yeah, that and that he was still a Sergeant in 2018. It bugged me, so I looked it up. Jimmy McCain enlisted in the Marines at 17, came home after his enlistment, went to college, enlisted again in the National Guard, then went on to get a Master's degree before seeking a commission in the Army. Yeah, it's an odd career path, but on the up and up.

As my grandfather served for 30 years in both WWII (Patton's Third Army) and Korea as a radio operator on the front lines and never rose above Sargent I don't think that matters as far as service to our country. Some people don't aspire to do anything but the work, and as you rise through the ranks you become more of a manager than a worker. This was presented well in "Band of Brothers" - a battlefield promotion for Lieutenant Dick Winters put him away from his company, which gave him a real sense of disconnection with those he had served with in battle.

Can echo the same. Different military, but same story with my step-dad. Completed his 25 years with a full pension, but never was higher than a Master Corporal. Had everything to do with the nature of the field of work he was in.

I thought the same thing, but maybe he started as a noncom and went through ocs, if that's even a thing anymore.

It is, and going by the hed pic, he did indeed come up through the ranks, what we used to call 'doing it the hard way.'

Here's the core stupidity: All Drumpf had to do here was let someone photograph him at the wreath ceremony, with only the graves of the soldiers whose families had invited him in view, and let it get laundered through social media as a solemn "non-partisan" public appearance. Instead, he posed for pictures like a stupid tourist.
