That's roughly 2 1/2 Omahas, for people who need to compare numbers to something physical.

Good riddance. If Jordan Peterson's name and/or philosophy comes up in conversation with my fellow Canadians I am sure to let them know what a toxic quack he is. I suspect he has political ambitions to lead a party. May it not be a party in Canada where he can spread his malignant mumbo jumbo.

Elno wants a tech-bro oligarchy. He and the tech-bro douchcanoes Dementia Don has nominated want to get rid of the SEC, FDIC, CFPB, and other regulations that have tenuously kept the US financial systems from complete collapse. Given that these dickweasels see themselves and the techo-bro driven economy as the best thing ever, a lot of attempts to gut the regulations are on tap.

But ... two notes: 1. US banks are making obscene profits in the current environment. Will they stand by and let a bunch of libertarian tech-bros ruin that? And 2. if those regulations are gutted, the US financial system, and the US dollar's fixture as the world's reserve currency, will completely succumb. This is not recession ... this would be 1930s banking collapse and full-on depression. Foreign banking won't deal with it ... they'll skedaddle over to another solid currency. The Euro, maybe? Who knows ... but they aren't going to put any investment in US dollars.

So we end up with a fraud laden system where no one's money is safe. I know Dementia Don has no fucking clue what this means. I also know the FO for the average US citizen who voted for Orange Mussolini will lose most everything. I can't believe the CEOs of the big five "too big to fail" banks are going to sit idly by and watch this happen.

Gird your loins and strap in ... it's going to be a bumpy ride.

Those banks happily would allow it to happen. Yesterday in federal court in Ohio, the Ohio Chamber, US Chamber, and those banks (and other banks) sued to declare the Federal Reserve's capital stress-tests unlawful. They want to speed-run a new depression because they think they can bail out of the US dollar into Euros or Pounds Sterling or something else before everything is set on fire.

I am so glad they convinced us to ditch pensions in favor of gambling on the stock market.

Will be interesting to see the "but I am doing fine!" types suddenly not as banks fold up and there's no FDIC to back them.

Luckily, I know how to live poor. Pro tips: buy nothing new; go without anything that is not a necessity and a few things that might be; make sure rent is paid-everything else can wait; plan all trips to get it done on a single day to conserve fuel- and go to less places, one would be best; healthcare is for rich people, so live with all those things until something kills you (exception being if you have spawn- spawn get all your healthcare dollars.)

WASHINGTON — A nearly two-year investigation by Democratic senators of Supreme Court ethics details more luxury travel by Justice Clarence Thomas and urges Congress to establish a way to enforce a new code of conduct.

Any movement on the issue appears unlikely as Republicans prepare to take control of the Senate in January, underscoring the hurdles in imposing restrictions on a separate branch of government even as public confidence in the court has fallen to record lows.

The 93-page report released Saturday by the Democratic majority of the Senate Judiciary Committee found additional travel taken in 2021 by Thomas but not reported on his annual financial disclosure form: a private jet flight to New York’s Adirondacks in July and jet and yacht trip to New York City sponsored by billionaire Harlan Crow in October, one of more than two dozen times detailed in the report that Thomas took luxury travel and gifts from wealthy benefactors.

The court adopted its first code of ethics in 2023, but it leaves compliance to each of the nine justices.

“The highest court in the land can’t have the lowest ethical standards,” the committee chairman, Illinois Sen. Richard J. Durbin, said in a statement. He has long called for an enforceable code of ethics.

Republicans protested the subpoenas authorized for Crow and others as part of the investigation. No Republicans signed on to the final report, and no formal report from them was expected.

A spokesman for Crow said he voluntarily agreed to provide information for the investigation, which did not pinpoint any specific instances of undue influence. Crow said in a statement that Thomas and his wife, Ginni, had been unfairly maligned. “They are good and honorable people and no one should be treated this way,” he said.

Attorney Mark Paoletta, a longtime friend of Thomas who has been tapped to join the incoming Trump administration, said the report was aimed at conservatives whose rulings Democrats disagreed with.

Well, it's a cloudy morning here which means a migraine for me today, but I got my meds nice and early so it's mostly faded to a small background headache. Gives me an excuse to skip swim class this AM, but I'll need to get a walk in later.

I did pretty good at the white elephant last night. After pulling a bottle of alcohol a second night in a row, I was again relieved of it and stole a basket of dog toys that I kept and got all set up here at my condo. Termite has picked out his favorite toy, a racoon dressed in a scarf and he has swung it real hard to make sure it's completely dead. The basket is wicker and will be the pet toy basket I have been looking for.

So glad to have a short and easy week at work this week and next. I think next week I'll take off NY eve just to treat myself. Last year I used about half my vacation days on the trip my dad ended up canceling plus working elections. Hopefully this year won't be so much bullshit with my family so I can take my vacation and USE IT TO VACATION.
