i visited NYC in oct '23 with several fam members...a nephew was going to school there, so we had a friendly guide...i fell in love with the city, but i esp liked the subway...interesting, and none of us ever felt anything but safe
on one trip, a 40-ish black man got on the car, carrying an old chip-board type guitar case, he sat next to us...there were a group of young cute girls sitting across from him, giggling and texting, and generally being young 20-ish cute girls...he pulled an acoustic guitar out of the case, and began clumsily futzing around on the guitar in an even clumsier and obvious attempt to impress the girls...much eye-rolling ensued, and they got off the train at the next stop--
after the train got rolling again, i (being the pro guitar player and not able to restrain myself) said to him "hey man, i'm a pro guitar player, lemme show you how to impress people with that thing", he handed it to me, i showed off a couple licks, he immediately grabbed it back and put it back in the case 😄....he was having none of it
he got off at the next stop, and on came somebody with a boombox (YAASSS...A BOOMBOX IN THE YEAR 2023!! 🤯), with an old hip-hop tune playing at an acceptably funky level, might have been playing 'Rappers Delight', cant remember, i was so transported back thru time in the moment--it was truly surreal, we all felt like we were in an 80s movie
Why did Trump interfere in NYC and NY state's governance except to try and undermine Democratic governor Kathy Hochul? He also was probably trying to smooth things for a GOP MAGA to win a future governor's race. And then there's Eric Adams. Too bad Hochul couldn't remove him as NYC mayor.
One of my uncles moved to Manhattan when he was 18 years old., lived and worked there all of his life. Never owned a car or even bothered to get a driver's license
When I lived in NJ in the 80s and 90s I would make frequent trips to NYC. I almost never drove because it's expensive, difficult to park (sometimes impossible), can get stuck in traffic, and minor dings and scrapes become highly likely (I much prefer none). I would usually park at a garage in Hoboken and then take the PATH train into the city. When I was younger I would just take the bus all the way.
Ta, Dok. I take public transportation (bus and subway) to and from work (apart from most Fridays, when we travel). At first, beloved husband Meccalopolis was unhappy about paying $9 to drive back into the city from work in Brooklyn. I pointed out to him that it's only $3.20 more than round trip on public transit. That $3.20 a day saves him time in traffic, which has clearly improved. Also too, if he were to go by bus and subway, his commute time would double. He'll never have to pay the increased tolls, because next month he'll be a year from retirement. One of the best things about the upgrades to the subways is the new and improved elevators, which allow wheelchair users access. I'm all for that.
I do not live in NYC but I have been there on numerous occasions and this I can say without doubt: 1) Since the original La Goulue closed the city has lost much of its allure and 2) If I lived there I wouldn't dream of having a car.
Sean Duffy has an advanced degree in stupid from Lumberjack College in Real World, WI. Won’t ride the subway, won’t fly to Newark, a model of Trumpist manliness.
My older brother lived in the Connecticut suburbs and took public transit into Manhattan for work five days a week for years. When Cash Cab debuted on the TV he and I were talking about it and I said I was astounded that even among the city dwellers in the cab it didn't seem to me anyone exhibited that famous NYC attitude with the rudeness and "fuhgetabout it" stuff. He explained that was because those stories were mostly made up.
I agree...the incident I describe above happened when I was moving to Manhattan from a small California town, about 20 years old and terrified. I never forgot it, because "mostly made up."
"Not surprisingly, the administration is now doing its little dance where it decries the mean “unelected” federal judge (no federal judges are elected)." Down my way, the right wing is screaming it's undemocratic that federal judges are going to be elected... the first half this Sunday.
that crabs video is hi-larious 😄...and so NYC

So, State's Rights. Except sometimes. Or not.
Any one who lived in NYC and is openly taking the side of fucking car commuters from fucking New Jersey can suck my balls.
They only have to drive to Penn Station, then take the train straight to Manhattan. Easy peasy.

As a former Stevens student I can agree, "this is the way".
This is the way.

I grew up nearby, and my son lives there in the area below 60th st. He seems to think it's a good place to live, and riding the subway is no problem.

The lying will never stop. Every member of his administration is well schooled in prevarication.
Trump: Bespoke insincerity is my brand
I got on a bus from La Guardia to midtown and the bus driver told me I needed exact change,
I panicked. Got up and grabbed the handle of my enormous suitcase preparing to depart when the other passengers took up a collection and paid my fare.
That's how sweet people in NYC are, for sure!!

This caught my attention.

"Bespeak insincerity”? I saw them at Green Man last year.
