Having lived in MoCo long enough to consider it home, I’m surprised that there were enough knuckle-draggers here to mount a judicial assault against tolerance and education. Since I’m on this forbidden comment page, I’ll take the opportunity to boast that I got to vote for Jamie Raskin last Tuesday. And I’ll do it again in November!
I read this morning about a teacher in California cashing in big to settle a wrongful discharge suit, She was fired for not following school policy, which was to use the names and pronouns favored by the students, and, apparently, outing them to their parents. This seems like a totally justified firing but she sued claiming that her deeply held beliefs prevented her from following school policy. One wonders if she refused to call Richard Rich. Rick or Dick? Did she refuse to call Samantha Sam? And then there was the issue of proselytizing during class. I don;t see where using a person's preferred name is a religious activvity. while proselytizing in school is a violation of the 1st amendment concerning the establishment of religion. But she collected $360,000. Not a bad days' work. Story via the Sacramento Bee.
Montgomery County, like much of Maryland, is solidly bright blue. I’m surprised that this nonsense is even coming out of that county. Those wretched plaintiffs can move to a red state with that bigoted nonsense.
Again, bringing up intersex peeps, because for so many this is EXACTLY the case:
"When we are born, people make a guess about our gender and label us “boy” or “girl” based on our body parts. Sometimes they’re right, and sometimes they’re wrong. Our body parts do not decide our gender. Our gender comes from inside—we might feel different than what people tell us we are. We know ourselves best."
Some peeps don't know about their differences in sex differentiation till adulthood via fertility clinics. It's been noted that conditions such as these are not as rare as we had previously (prior 1990's) we thought. This is in no means in any way to disparage other needs, but seriously, that THAT is woke. Fork me, it's clinical indications of what happens if sexual differentiation phenotypes is not clear at birth. It's a sort of 'la la la facts don't exist land' when they keep referring to this as a choice and/or no other human forms exist. That's some straight up eugenics shite.
Also just how in the fork do we even know if some of these kids are indeed of intersex (numbers treated children still lower than overall population incidence rate)? Do we know every case? And lastly, WTF should it matter? Do any of these arseholes have a LICENSED medical degree with residencies & fellowships?
The sinking in my stomach when there is no back up on this cuz it will make these forkers look more like the monsters they are. I do want media to push on this point time and time again. Make them OWN their cruelty for ALL humans to see with nowhere for them to hide and scurry back too. I'm in Inglorious Bastaers mode but with social consequences that doesn't violate human needs.
Maybe one day this rage/pain won't hurt so much, but it ain't this day(weeping, exploding head emoji)
FYI, my textbook for human reproductive biology had one such clinical case that reached world wide news. A 60's era Olympic swimmer & bar bodies. They were genotypic male (hence the lack of a bar body, but X-o female presenting do the same) but phenotypically female due to a single nucleotide mutation in their cells that did not allow for the body in any way to respond to the male hormones so the alternated male urinary/reproductive system was never switched on. (FYI, for most vertebrates, the default is female).
They may have lost some medals in the olympics because of this. Then there is current female runners currently that have been barred not because they are not genetic or phenotypic female (and they've had some invasive AF test) but because of excess hormones.
What I'm saying is that it adds an additional dimension of horror that the news industry is not to keen to focus on.
I lived in Takoma Park (Montgomery Co., not PG Co.) for a long time. Great area, bordering DC. Most people I knew there were Dems like much of metro DC, but it also has right-wingers like every other place.
I'm a little surprised that Muslim parents signed on to this lawsuit. Not because they're more tolerant, but because I wouldn't think the Christians would make common cause with the Muslims (and perhaps vice versa).
One thing I'll say for us Jews, we don't get involved in this type of shit. And any parents who would be upset at inclusive books would probably be sending their kids to a yeshiva anyway.
They often seem to forget that once conservative Christians get their way with LGBTQ people, Muslims and other religious minorities are next on the chopping block.
E is for everyone under the sun. Except cops, fuck the cops.
"What is missing here is the evidentiary link....."

Ta, Marcie. I. Just. Can't. when it comes to these corrosive, corrupt creeps.

As a high school special ed guy, I just call all my students: "Hey, you li'l fuckers!" No one has complained yet.
Thanks for the shout out to Takoma Park! It’s an amazing place to live.
Actual home of Jamie Raskin!

Maryland is bright blue from DC to Baltimore. It gets redder the farther you get from that corridor.
My family went to a Moms 4 Liberty rally in Montgomery County, and rest assured, there were plenty of protesters out front.
Outside agitators? Wait...that's the complaint white Southerners had about Civil Rights marchers...
2-1?!?
Always a pleasure to see nastiness get its comeuppance, especially when reported with such clarity and heart. Many thanks, Marcie!
Psst - this is a post by Marcie.
Thanks for the correction!
You're welcome.
The find a word needs to be expanded to include "bigot" and "homophobe" and "transphobe". Optional bonus words: "Pegging" and "Santorum".
TRUMP

Both are children of Abraham. He was kind of a dick.
Lacking in common sense. And easily led.

The Muslims in Michigan are incredibly anti-gay.

What this thread teaches me is that MoCo contains multitudes of Wonks, even outside of the borders of the People’s Republic of Takoma Park.
We should do a meetup.
Here is an interesting predicament; I can only upvote every other post. Weird.
What I've noticed is I can upvote an original post but not any replies to said post.
What I've noticed is that Substack has decided to transition into Disqus.
Oh no, Disqus never did shit like this. And having seen it at others sites now, it it WAY better than before
And I would have liked this but I couldn't.
