Here's the thing about the GOP: IT SHOULD NOT WORK. There should not be a party made up of corporate oligarchs and the very working people they screw. But like all good marriages, it endures because the partners agree to overlook each other's faults. For instance, the workers ignore the lies about reopening factories and coal mines because they get to carry a machine gun around while protesting the last abortion provider in their state. And the business owners ignore all the Pitchfork Hoedown campaign promises about GETTING TOUGH WITH CHINA because they know it will never happen, and they're going to get a blank check to rape the environment and pillage labor laws. WIN WIN.
The tweets show that the tariffs were about extortion in negotiations rather than the excuse of security. Canada could present this evidence to the WTO - the security excuse is bogus and the tariffs are illegal.
Of course that does not solve the problem. The issue is what do you do when another party in a negotiation brings extortion to the table?
When one side is using extortion your choice is either to capitulate or leave the table.
Many can debate this but the NAFTA talks are down to a single question -- which is worse for Canada capitulation or walking away from NAFTA for now? To assume there is some third way at the moment looks unrealistic. Such a third way could come from a reaction in the US to Canada walking away. It could come only when Trump is no longer president. It will not come from any other source.
Perhaps Canada has to accept that NAFTA is over until Trump is gone. The alternative is a renegotiated terrible NAFTA Canada could be stuck with for a generation at least. Short term pain might be less expensive as extreme as it may be.
Really means (((globalist))).
Wilbur Ross is a greed gnome.
Sort of like El Dotardo riling up his base of ignorant dipsticks by railing against the "elitist" left.
How many kids is God willing to allow to be killed before those in power get the message that we shouldn't be making machines that kill with such ease? Will He have to set fire to a weapons manufacturer directly to get His message across?
Honer, offer, honer, offer; altogether a good honeymoon.
It also may literally be the only time he completes a sentence.
That's quite brazen of you to say that while things are in such flux.
And my credit is in limbo.
I have a very small business with equipment that is completely made of aluminum and stainless steel. The primary supplies we use are made of aluminum. Some of the raw stock we use is made of aluminum and stainles steel. My business does not involve end products that everyone HAS to have, but, rather, products that people consider as optional purchases. As my costs rise, and I have to raise my prices, I will be seeing a downturn in demand. I started this business just before Cheney crashed the economy in 2008, and have lost almost everything I have, hanging on by the skin of my teeth. The last two years, as the Obama economy started taking hold here in the rust belt, I had hope that hanging in there was a good decision. Now, I feel like I am one of the vast majority of people who are about to get screwed again.Automobiles and soup cans don't even begin to cover the items you use daily that are made of aluminum and steel. Eyeglasses, travel mugs, staplers, cookie sheets, scissors, razors, fans, light bulbs and on and on and on. A couple of cents here, a couple of dollars there, and you suddenly can't afford to replace a lot of the stuff you used to have.
Trump's Yoda. But, when his own business record is taken into account he's more like Jabba the Hut.
Because all that stolen cash can be used to pay endless lawyers to say it's not stolen.
How long before dumpf starts blaming the ((globalists))?
I feel you man. Good luck. My father worked in a steel mill in the 80s, just before he retired. Until then I had never thought about flatwear, lamps, tools, doornobs, nails, belt buckles, guns, knives, hinges, springs, safety pins, paper clips, Zippos, chair legs, and on and on and on of things made with steel.I really can't understand Trump's motive for this. Most of our imported steel and aluminum comes from Canada. Unless it is a hockey game there is no reason to fight with Canadians.Again, good luck. I hope you can make it. America needs manufacturers, and manufacturing jobs.
Well Trump did say his plan to get rid of debt is to declare bankruptcy, just like he said the other day to get rid of elections.
Wait, I'm confused, because Drumpf illegally imported Chinese steel for his construction projects.
