Glad to see Duterte will stand trial for crimes, though shocking how people supported him in his killing. While teaching at a college I had students from the Philippines in the classroom. One day in 2018 I asked what a philippino student though of their president. He said that he and his family thought Duterte was "great". I asked, " even though he is killing drug addicts in the street?" "Yes" was the students reply. It is a whole different culture in the Philippines where the more well off see people suffering drug addiction as a failure worthy of death. I'm connected still with this student on facebook and saw that he and his wife, now living back in the Philippines, and prospering have had a beautiful boy. I sure hope this child is blessed with empathy and compassion for those that have more difficulties than him, rather than his father I witnessed who had none.
Trump would LOVE to institute the death penalty for "drug dealers." You know who's a "drug dealer"? Not who you're thinking--if you're thinking a hulking stereotype dominating an urban street corner. Drug dealers include high school kids sharing pills they found in their parents' nightstands. College students who thought they'd scored some E for the big party. And, yes, desperate addicts who can't access treatment because Trump (and Project 2025) think treatment is a waste of money.
Duterte was Trump's role model for this, the big manly man whose "tough" on drugs policies Trump would still love to emulate, the corpses of your kids be damned.
LOL. Oh, AP, the answer is no one. Equal access is DEI which is against the law now. And the money? Block grants to the states which means, in many red states, block grants to religious schools.
Most states starve their poor schools anyway. Basing how much money a school gets by property tax while ignoring that there are huge areas where everyone rents is like that.
Do better, AP. The article mostly talks about security for the judges ... which I do believe is important. But these judges only briefly talk about the crisis of WHY this is happening to them.
Any federal judge talking about meta issues of the judicial system who doesn't address the capture of it's highest level and a good deal of the lower levels by judicial apparatchiks of the slow-smoking right-wing coup has no real right to whinge and pontificate and conceal their abandonment of the Constitution and democracy underneath their stately black robes. They are part of the problem. Threats are something we all are experiencing, somehow I'm guessing they'll be okay.
Well, I admit I've wanted a pony and cart for years, and not a bad reason is that pony could be an excellent lawn-mower as well as a playmate for the Newfie. What?? Perfectly matched in size, strength probably, though doggo is likely more rowdy. And if pony gets into trouble in a body of water.......
Pointless? Oh heavens no, he hasn't bitched about google censoring Conservatives (aka, not showing misinformation as a first result) for a long time now! This is just the shakedown for more money

When I'm POTUS, the ICC can come and get them as well
"Don't get your hopes up about Trump. The US never joined the International Criminal Court treaty."
FIRST thing I would do if I was POTUS....join the International Criminal Court treaty. I'll even hold the goddamn door open for them

Theeats to impeach, I'm glad they talked about that.

If I had a pony, I'd ride him on my boat.
That's fine, Lyle.
A good pony or Newfie can pull a tumbril, also too.
🏆
The pony's not likely to burst into flames if it gets into a pond.
Not to mention, a good Newf would haul it out, first, no matter if that pony was flammable! Which......... probably not many ponies? All good news!

The Congressional election of 2026 will be . . . interesting.
God, it's so far away.
Yeah, it is.
But we're a third world country now. Can we get the UN to monitor the election for real this time?
Oh, and speaking of the UN ... when will the felon kick them out so he can building a gaudy building on that site?
I'm sure Miller or Bannon will sell him on the idea.

Yes.
Cargo ship captain arrested, after crashing into a tanker carrying US military jet fuel, was... dun dun dun... a Russian national.

Yep, straight in.
So he was drunk is what they're getting at.
Let's just be thankful he wasn't smoking, too. Seems to be an issue when Ukrainian forces show interest in them.
A Russian ship captain . . . drunk?! Unpossible!
(/sarcasm)
It's funny that in the last 500 years, the only period when Russians haven't been characterized as drunken louts was the Soviet era.
I remember the Soviets frequently being portrayed as drunken louts.
(thinks)
Probably just a cover story for a putin terrorist.
Or normal SOP for Russians.
Yes, I know that's a racial stereotype and I'm bad and naughty and evil and I have no shame.
Russian isn’t a race so don’t feel bad at all.
Not to hear the Russians talk about it. And how they want the Ukrainians to become Russians.
